Description
Reiki is a traditional Japanese healing system, which was started about 80 years ago by a Japanese spiritual teacher after a three week retreat and out of what the master termed as a mystical revelation. The system has undergone a considerable number of modifications in the 80 or so years of its existence, while at the same time finding acceptance and popularity in many other parts of the world beyond its cradle in Japan.
To become a Reiki practitioner, one needs to undergo training. There are generally three degrees of Reiki training, which we might refer to as the basic Reiki training, the Intermediate Reiki training and the master training, which is the ultimate level of Reiki training.
To become a Reiki master, one needs to be first well grounded in the basics of Reiki practice, that is, to have undergone both the basic and intermediate levels of Reiki training and earned the relevant attunements. Before embarking on master training, one is advised to meditate deeply to find out if their life purpose is in line with the requirements of being a master. And if that turns out to be the case indeed, then the next step would be to sign up with a Reiki master to take you through the advanced Reiki training required to become a Reiki master. The master you choose for this purpose should be one to whom you feel 'attuned'; ideally a person with a very profound understanding of Reiki and real life experience to show for it.
Besides advanced Reiki practice, other things that are taught in master training include how to initiate other people into Reiki, how to confer the various attunements that make people Reiki practitioners - generally how to go about training new Reiki practitioners to ensure the perpetuity of the system. The philosophy behind Reiki is also taught at this stage, as are the innermost workings of Reiki, so that by the time the person undertaking Reiki master training finishes their training, they are well grounded enough in the workings of Reiki that they can answer virtually any question about the system in any forum.
Once you acquire the title of master, you are empowered to start taking your own students, teaching them the practice of Reiki and conferring the various attunements they need to start their own Reiki healing practices. This means that pedagogy - the art of teaching - forms a major part of Reiki master training. In addition to empowering you to start a teaching practice, master training also empowers you to enrich your Reiki healing practice, so that your healing is strengthened and you can heal people at even greater distances.
In most Reiki schools, the completion of Reiki master training is marked by the conferment of the relevant attunements, as well as the drawing of the Raku symbol, which apart from making you a master also strengthens you healing power considerably. Reiki master training costs up to $10,000 in some schools.
