With the potential of global warming andless ice, the objective was to explore new ice climbing possibilties. Their were rumorsof under ground ice caverns in old mineshafts in Sweden. With a constant freezing temperature the ice below would not beaffected by the temperatures outside. Afterdoing some research we discovered there were several potential mine shafts in Swedenthat had ice in them. This one was near Nora,Sweden and was the first cavern we explored.

We had to rappel 500 feet underground and bring HMI lights to light up the mine shaftso we can shoot video and to give us goodvisibility. Once undergorund it was one of the most surreal places I have ever been. It was incredibly beautiful to be down thereshooting ice climbing and to be in this very remote part of the earth.

There was a lot of logistics to set up thisshoot. We had to get 5 people underground with fixed ropes and all of our equipment,it was very much like rigging a big wall forrock climbing. We used over 300 metersof static rope, around 30 ice screws andprobably 8-10 bolts.

This was the last run from a day of heli boarding. The conditions were really goodand we had just shot a bunch of photosof other riders on this run higher up themountain. I rode down and saw this openspace with the shadows creeping up andasked Lauri to make a deep turn right inthe sunny part. I think he nailed it! Lovethis shot.
