The clitoris
Many people, both scientists and individuals, proud-ly claim to have ‘‘discovered’’ the clitoris. For a longtime, the clitoris seems to have been regarded as theprincipal and most obvious emale sex organ, butat some point in the 19th century this ocus on theclitoris disappeared in avour o the vagina. Femalesexuality was increasingly associated with child-bea-ring, and the clitoris was largely obliterated rom thesexual map. In 1905, however, the clitoris was o-cially ‘‘rediscovered’’ by Sigmund Freud.
