Companies Launch Development Contests to Identify and Prototype Use Cases for AppStream
SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Nov 13, 2013) - TopCoder , the world's largest professional development and design community, today announced the launch of a series of innovation challenges for the new AWS service AppStream. AppStream provides developers with a dynamic way to stream entire applications, or their components, to a device. In an effort to identify the best scenarios for taking advantage of this type of application streaming as a service capability, TopCoder will run a series of challenges to gather the best ideas from the TopCoder community for how to use AppStream, and then will run subsequent challenges to prototype popular ideas. AppStream's streaming capabilities allow graphically and resource-intensive applications to run on low-performing devices. This enables developers to reach new end-users without having to constrain the design of an application to specific devices. Because the application is  processed in the cloud, as opposed to on the device, it can port across  platforms and helps protect the code from piracy.
Developers can write software once and run it via AppStream to instantly and securely deliver the experience to computers, tablets,  phones, and televisions with an Internet connection. "AppStream is a new way to think about how applications are built and delivered," said Mike Frazzini, General Manager, Amazon Games. "Working with TopCoder, we're excited to learn about the wide range of real-world uses developers are able to dream up for AppStream." The idea and development contests are available at topcoder.com/aws. The idea contest will crowdsource compelling new use cases for AppStream from a global community of developers and designers. For registered AppStream preview participants, there will be follow-on contests to prototype a select number of use cases that result from the idea content. "TopCoder has used AWS with many leading customers like NASA and for our own operations for years," said Narinder Singh, president of community and technology, TopCoder and co-founder, Appirio. "Tapping the community to help discover and build out use cases for new innovations from AWS pairs incredible technology with the power of community."
