Site AcreageTurpin High School, which is not on the National Register of Historic Buildings, and originally constructed in 1976, is a 4 story, 204,195 square foot brick school building located ina suburban residential setting. The facility was originally designed as an Open Concept plan but has been converted to a conventionally partitioned design, and does not utilizemodular buildings. The structure of the 1976 Original Construction contains brick veneer on a non-load bearing masonry wall system with a reinforced concrete interior structuralsystem type exterior wall construction. The structure of the 1999 and 2001 Additions contains brick veneer on load bearing masonry wall type exterior wall construction. Theoverall facility has concrete masonry units, brick, glazed block, concrete, metal stud framed partitions with gypsum board, wood stud framed partitions with wood paneling andgypsum board and operable partition type wall construction in the interior. The base floor system of the overall facility is a concrete slab on grade type construction. The floorsystem of the intermediate floors of the 1976 Original Construction consists of precast hollow core concrete panels with concrete topping on a cast-in-place concrete column andbeam frame type construction. The floor system of the intermediate floors of the 1999 and 2001 Additions consists of metal form deck on steel joist with concrete topping typeconstruction. The roof structure of the 1976 Original Construction is a combination of precast hollow core concrete panels and metal form deck on steel joist type construction. Theroof structure of the Gymnasium Mezzanines is steel deck on sloping steel joist type construction. The roof structure of the Gymnasium is steel deck on steel flat truss typeconstruction. The roof structure over the 1999 Auditorium Fixed Seating Area is vinyl faced batt insulation with purlins on steel sloping flat truss type construction. The roofstructure of the 1999 and 2001 Additions is metal form deck on steel joist type construction. The roofing system over the 1976 Original Construction is a combination of a standingseam metal roof system that was installed in 1976, a fully adhered EPDM membrane system over the Gymnasium and Athletic Entrance that was installed in 1992, a granularasphalt rolled roofing system that was installed in 1998, a modified asphalt built-up system with gravel wear coat that was installed in 1999, and a fully adhered EPDM membranesystem over the Music and Technology Area C that was installed in 2013. The roofing system over the 1999 Addition is a combination of a standing seam metal roof system thatwas installed in 1999, and a fully adhered EPDM membrane system that was installed in 1999. The roofing system over the 2001 Addition is a modified asphalt built-up systemwith gravel wear coat that was installed in 2001. The ventilation system of the building is not adequate to meet the needs of the users. The Classrooms are undersized in terms ofthe current standards established by the State of Ohio. Physical Education and Student Dining spaces consist of 8,215 SF Gymnasium, 8,241 SF Natatorium, and separateStudent Dining. The electrical system for the facility is generally adequate, but will not meet the needs of future system upgrades. The facility is equipped with a non-compliantsecurity system. The building has a compliant manual and automatic fire alarm system. The 1976 Original Construction and 2001 Addition are not equipped with an automated firesuppression system. The 1999 Addition is equipped with a compliant automated fire suppression system. The 1976 Original Construction contains asbestos. The overall buildingis not compliant with ADA accessibility requirements, except for the 1999 and 2001 Additions, which are mostly compliant.The school is located on a 25.0 acre site shared with Mercer Elementary School adjacent to residential properties. The property, play areas, and athletic facilities are partiallyfenced for security. Access onto the site is unrestricted. Site circulation is fair for vehicular traffic and poor for pedestrian access. There is not dedicated space for school buses toload and unload on the site, and is not separated from vehicular traffic. Parking for staff, visitors and community events is inadequate.
