Goa, The Land of Felix Culpa and the Cradle of Unforgiving Karma

Goa, The Land of Felix Culpa and the Cradle of Unforgiving Karma

It is the Felix Culpa that distinguishes the Goan ethos, hammered out through colonial instruments during four and half centuries, from the Hindu belief in karma, which is ruthless in its judgement of individual’s actions. It does not thrust any judgement based on human assessment, and leaves the sentence to the samskara and rebirth. Salvation from the cycle of rebirths may sound cruel and inhuman to the modern mind, but so is also the justice that modernity offers to us, so easily bent by power and money.
To conclude, Goa respresents the modernity with all its limitations, but also tempered by the Christian ethos of thrust in a divine Saviour and what his grace can do to our damned lives. Those who come to Goa only to pursue the cult of the worst in modernity should beware, because Goa’s identity can also cast such cultural pimps to the unforgiving handling of karma.
