2013 MILESTONES
Dear Members and Friends, The Chinese Culture Foundation would like you to join us for what promises to be an extraordinary journey to spark intercultural discovery. Over 60,000 people came to experience thought provoking art and history come alive this year. 7 million visitors joined us in a global dialogue online. The community is participating in the art and cultural renaissance in an unprecedented way. One of 2013s milestone is the establishment of the Him Mark Lai Learning Center endowed by Laura Lai and Dr. Rolland and Mrs. Kathyrn Lowe. As the communitys engagement and education hub, over 120 Bay Area family members journeyed to Locke and in the Sacramento Delta in an inaugural Roots California expedition. We met the family of Wallace Chan, whose family have grown and distributed Bartlett pears and other produce in Courtland since 1880. Another 2013s milestone is seizing the opportunity to spark discovery on national and international levels. Recent exhibitions, The Moment for Ink, WOMEN and Curiosity Box represent a remarkable collaboration of arts organizations to connect the City with Miami, New York, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Hong Kong. We have also expanded beyond traditional art spaces, participating at the Madrid LGBT lm festival. We are extremely proud of our historical collaboration with ARTstor. Art scholars all around the world are now able to access work on Chinese American artists at the same level as Picasso, Jackson Pollock and others. Your support also enables youths and immigrants from low income families to connect by participating in drumming, silk screening, digital story-telling and ballroom dancing. The success of the Chinese Culture Foundation belongs to you and the community. Thank you for being a part of history making. Please consider making a year-end contribution by returning the donation form. All proceeds will go toward the community programs that you designate. We thank you for your past support and your consideration today. Happy Thanksgiving! Mabel S. Teng

TRIBUTE TO MICHAEL SULLIVAN

Michael Sullivan, dear friend to the Chinese Culture Foundation, passed away in September 2013. This year, Sullivan gave his last public US lecture, and took part in a tribute dinner for the Moment for Ink exhibition here at the Center. As Professor Ling Chi Wang asserts, Sullivan introduced the history of Chinese art to the Western world and forever changed the writing of the history of art. Before Sullivan, the Western world did not know nor understand Chinese painting. Michael Sullivan was a trailblazer in the arts and we at the Chinese Culture Foundation are indebted to his work and legacy. We will honor his work, paving the way for intercultural discovery in the arts. We will truly miss him.

I am astonished at the achievements of the Foundation. I could see you are attracting far more support and involvement in the community.
--Michael Sullivan, about his visit to the CCF in March this year
