TSUNAMI
A tsunami is a series of waves generated in an ocean or

other body of water by disturbance such as an : earthquake, landslide, volcanic eruption, meteorite impact.

Tsunami Move at High Speed

The speed (C) of a tsunami is given by the formula for

the speed of a shallow-water wave

Warning Design In this study, tsunami warnings are categorised into

three levels of threat. This is the technique that has been adopted operationally by the JATWC and was used in AG08. The three levels are:
1. No threat. 2. Marine threat, indicating potentially dangerous waves

and strong ocean currents in the marine environment. 3. Land threat, indicating major land inundation of lowlying coastal areas, dangerous waves and strong ocean currents.

Natural mitigation: MANGROVE Can help to reduce the devastating impact of a tsunami and storm surge by decreasing their wave energies CORAL REEF This protection is likely to become more important as climate change is predicted to make tropical storms more frequent and destructive.

Forecast of Tsunami
Numerical Method A finite-difference model (Choi et al., 2003) was developed to simulate the generation and propagation of the tsunami. The numerical model uses the linear shallow-water equation with a spherical coordinate system covering the East Sea area with mesh dimensions 9591118, a mesh size of 1 angular min, and a 2-s time step (Fig. 2). The basic equations are
