SMK HORLEY METHODIST, TELUK INTAN STPM TERM 3 TRIAL 2013 Section A [45 marks] ( One and half

hour) Answer all questions in this section. 1.Hashim bought a house for RM 230,000. He made a 10 % down payment and financed the balance through a bank for 30 years. (a) If the interest rate was 7.5% compounded monthly, find the monthly payment that Hashim made to settle the loan. How much was the total interest charged? [3 marks] (b) Suppose Hashim missed the first three payments. How much should be paid on the fourth month if he wanted to settle the outstanding arrears? [3 marks] (c) Immediately after paying for 10 years, Hashim wants to settle the loan in full. How much is the amount that needs to be paid? [3 marks] 2. The revenue function and marginal cost function of a product are R(x) = 200x - x2 and C ' (x) = 0.2x + 2 respectively. Given that the fixed cost is RM 800, find (a) The cost function, [2 marks] (b) The profit function [2 marks] (c) The maximum revenue [2 marks] (d) The increase in cost if the number of products increases from 50 units to 100 units. [3 marks] 3. Samy Company manufactures two types of tables, models K and J. The production of a model K table requires a capital expenditure of RM 6 and 2 hours of labour. The production of a model J table requires a capital of RM 4 and 5 hours of labour. The Company has RM 240 capital and 100 hours of labour available for the production of the two models of tables per week. A model table K contributes a profit of RM 30 while the model J contributes RM 40. (a) Formulate the problem using linear programming model. [4 marks] (b) How many of each type of table should the firm produce to maximize the profit? [6 marks] (c) What is the maximum profit? [1 mark] 4. A machine costing RM 27,000 has a life expectancy of five years and a scrap value RM 7,000. Using the declining method, compute (a) annual depreciation rate, [2 marks] (b) The book value at the end of three years. [2 marks] 5. (a) Use simplex tableau to solve the linear programming problem below Maximise P = 10x + 12y + 8z Subject to : 2x + 2y 5 5x + 3y + 4z 15 x, y, z 0 (b) Verify, using the initial equation, that your solution is feasible.

6. A and B play a zero-sum game which is represented by the following pay-off matrix for A. B plays 1 B plays 2 A plays 1 4 -2 A plays 2 -5 3 a) Verify that A and B should play mixed strategies. [2 marks] b) Determine the mixed strategy each player should adopt, and the value of the game to each player. [4 marks]

Section B [15 marks] Answer any ONE question in this section. 7. Tatlee Workshop uses 500 oil filters a year and the usage is quite constant throughout the year. The oil filters are purchased from a supplier for RM3 each and the lead time is 2 days. The holding cost per filter per year 10 percent of the unit cost and the ordering cost is RM 3.75 per order. It is also known that there are 250 working days a year. (a) What is the economic order quantity, EOQ? [2 marks] (b) Given the EOQ, what is the average inventory? Find the annual holding cost. [3 marks] (c) What would the annual ordering cost be when the order quantity is the EOQ? [2 marks] (d) Determine the minimum annual inventory cost. [3 marks] (e) What is the reorder point? [2 marks] (f) What is the time between the orders? [3 marks] 8.

An engineering project is modelled by the activity network shown above. The activities are represented by the arcs. The number in brackets on each arc gives the time, in days, to complete the activity. Each activity requires one worker. The project is to be completed in the shortest time. (a) Calculate the early time and late time for each event. [5 marks] (b) State the critical activities. [2 marks] (c) Find the total float on activities D and F. You must show the working. [2 marks] (d) Draw a cascade (Gantt) chart for this project. [4 marks] (e) The chief engineer visits the project on day 15 and day 25 to check the progress of the work. Given that the project is on schedule. Which activities must be happening on each of these two days? [2 marks]
