what does it make you if you pass and qualify for this test?are there any sort of prize, which becomes the motivating factor of your solving the problem?

I hope all my exams were 'take home'

Actually this stuff isn't as hard as it looks, I promise. Most of what you see here is the Lagrangian reformulation of classical mechanics. I personally find it much simpler to use than Newtonian since the Lagrangian will work for any generalized coordinate system. It doesn't work well with frictional forces though. Again, if you have had General physics or EP with a little reading you would be able to do this. This is actually 2nd yr sophomore level physics, so yes it is undergrad. Good luck guys and I urge you all to check this stuff out, it's beautiful mathematically and fun to mess around with.

This kind of stuff kind of scares me ... what on earth am I going to do in university O_O

Anonymous about 1 year ago

Actually I'm an undergraduate math major, and I know all this stuff. A pure math major too, so I don't really have a place taking variational calculus. It's very useful stuff though, and interesting from a mathematical perspective.

That's not undergrad physics. That would make a math major feel dumb.
