ABC’s of Model Airplane Plans and Radio Controlled Model Airplane flyingOn any given summer day, thousands of model airplanes are flying around an open fields.The field has the appearance of a busy airport with planes in the sky and on the ground.You may have thought that this looks like an interesting hobby. Well, you're right. It'sinteresting, challenging, and fun.Here's some tips to get you started.Many pilots built their plane from amodel airplane plan. If you do not feel comfortablewith a full construction project, consider a Model Airplane kit (available from an areahobby shop or the internet.A new pilot should always buy a model airplane that is designated as a trainer because itshould be low cost, easy to build and repair, and have replacement parts available. Onaverage, the start up cost is $250 to $600+. Generally this includes a trainer airplane andengine, a radio, building materials and some fuel. The hardware package included in themodel airplane kit varies. Compare the cost of the model airplane kit and hardware whenevaluating costs.The traditional kit requires the model airplane builder to assemble the airplane from a pileof wood and pre-cut parts. If this seems a bit much, several kits called Almost Ready toFly (ARF) are also available. Most ARF's are approximately 90% pre-built andcompletely covered. The cost is higher than a traditional kit but, after purchasingcovering and the necessary hardware, costs are comparable. The minimum radio should be a four channel digital PCM but get the best you can afford. Futaba, Airtronics, JR, andHitec are four manufacturers known for reliable radios.You will need a glow plug starter to start your engine. Its' recommended to purchase amodel airplane with a rechargeable battery built in. Other items include fuel, buildingmaterials, glue, hinges, control rods, epoxy, wheels, screws, nuts, knives, coveringmaterial, duct tape, etc.Finally, you should buy a trainer cord which will allow your radioto be connected to another compatible radio (about $15.)Depending on the complexity of themodel airplane plan.Almost Ready to Fly kits require less than twenty hours while intricate model airplane may take over 200 hours (agreat winter project.)To ease the flight training process, you should strongly consider buying a computer training program (around $200.) it may sound pricey but when you crash an airplane,simple reset and fly again rather than repairing your real airplane. Join a local flying club.You and your instructor will use the trainer cord. Your radio will be the slave to your instructors. There is a toggle switch on the top of the radio that is used by the instructor togive and take control of the aircraft. Many aircraft have been saved by this feature.The learning steps of flight training should include;
