Introduction

In Spring 2005, the Hollywood zombie movie Silent Hill 2 was filmed on Colborne St.in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. A visit to Brantford clearly indicates why this location waschosen: it requires nearly no effort to transform downtown Brantford into a postapocalypticghost town. Most businesses along historic Colborne St. are boarded-up. Since collapsedceilings and other major structural issues prevent new retail or residential growth, the boardshave been painted over with murals of silhouettes of pool halls, cafes, and movie theatres. Inone sequence from the film, the observant viewer can glimpse the building at the corner of King and Colborne, a former restaurant. Until some punk kid stole it, a screenprinted bedsheethung in the front window:
