Its contribution to the Indian economy is
the industrial production.
Employment generation and
Foreign exchange earnings.
Its contributes:-
20% of industrial production.
9% of excise collections.
18% of employment in theindustrial sector.
20% to the countries total exportearnings and
4% to the gross domestic product.
History :-
 The traditional textile industry of Indiawas virtually decayed during thecolonial regime.
 The modern textile industry took birth inearly 19th century.
First textile industry was established atfort gloster near calcutta in 1818.
 The first cotton textile mill of Bombay,was established in 1854 by a parsicotton merchant.
