We welcomefeedback, which may be incorporated in future releases. Please send feedback togeorge@casewise.co.uk Once you have installed the model you will need to tailor it to your organization’srequirements. Some cells in the framework come with three ways of proceeding.Select the way you prefer in each cell and delete the others. The model alsocomes with a Zachman framework. You may wish to use this as your startingpoint. You may also wish to make your own framework. We have seen oneswhich only contain process columns – each column is for a different type of process. Once you have selected your preferred framework use that as a startingpoint to navigate around your Enterprise model and remove the otherframeworks.Page 1/76-Jul-01

of the current cell) and the cell below (an expansion of some or all of the contentof the current cell) but also with the cells to the left and right, which should beconsistent. Indeed, checking the cross-references is a useful means of developing a comprehensive model and being confident of its comprehensiveness. It is unusual to attempt to model a complete enterprise from a blank sheet of paper. This happens when designing a completely new business or when there isa very strong commitment for re-organization with clear objectives. A more usualapproach is to adopt a model based approach on a project-by-project basis. Anincremental approach is far more likely to succeed than a ‘big bang’ approach. Aseach new project is started it should add more information to the enterprisearchitecture and this should be re-used in other projects. Gradually theenterprise model emerges. Use the ‘Project kick off’ cell to start projects. One of the great benefits of the framework is that it tells you when to stopmodeling. For example if a colleague is creating a context data model and theynotice that there are really two kinds of customers, retail and wholesale, you cantell them not to worry about that because you can leave that to the conceptualdata model. If you are using this model as a basis for your enterprise modeling efforts, it isimportant that you review each cell to determine its suitability and to decidewhich of the options to use. Once you have refined your own framework you cancontinue modeling. A Zachman framework is also provided. You may wish to usethis as your starting point. You should delete all the object and diagrams thatyou decide not to use so that your framework is unambiguous. If you are viewing the diagram with a web browser then hover the cursor over apicture or rectangular cell to get more information about it. Click the picture orcell to see more details and to navigate on to template and example diagrams. If you are viewing the diagram with Corporate Modeler double click cells orpictures to see their details. Right click and use Explode to navigate on totemplate and example diagrams. If you would like to find out more about these models please telephone Casewisein the USA at 781 895 9900 or in the UK at +44 (0) 20 7722 4000 or visit ourweb site atwww.casewise.com The Casewise framework is based on the Zachman framework, which wasinvented and popularized by John Zachman as way of aligning IT to theenterprise. John Zachman encourages people to make their own frameworks -this we have done. We have rearranged the columns and made other innovationsto give more emphasis to project and process. We would like to thank JohnZachman, Tim Harris and Brett Champlin for their advice and encouragement.George Keeling, President and FounderHilary Small, Principal Consultant© Casewise 2001Page 3/76-Jul-01
