From a very young age, Mona had the ambition to succeed in professional life. She had achievedher goal by becoming a doctor. It is a common belief that nurses and doctors deal with life anddeath on a daily basis so they lose the humane touch. Nevertheless, Mona was not like thosenurses or doctors. If Mona saw a young child hurt, her eyes would have tears in them. Sheattended the old with care and love. She gave comfort to the scared ones. She would convincethe stubborn patients to get injections, and to have those tasteless or bitter medicines. She was alight for the dying.As she had such a hectic and demanding profession, she rarely had time to date or spare time for any leisure activities. Most of her friends used to tell her about their love incidents. The lovestories fascinated her. However, it always disgusted her that people who loved each other couldalso betray each other. This was another compelling factor, which made Mona stay away frombeing in LOVE. Mona saw from her friend’s examples that falling in love means destroying one’slife. Mona never realized that when love knocks at your door, it does not leave without taking youin its fold.In spite of her rigid notions about love, Mona also secretly waited for her true love. She also hadvisions about him. She wanted him to just like in fairy tales that is tall, dark, and handsome. Monawas lucky that she got what she had imagined and prayed for all her life. Love did knock onMona’s door however; no one knew that this beautiful relationship would take everything awayfrom Mona.Mona had changed in the past few months. It was a mystery to everyone that the girl who used tobe so quiet and unsocial had suddenly turned a new leaf. These days Mona was the happiestperson in the world. The reason was not that she had a secured job, excellent salary with benefitsand a great house. The main reason was that she was in LOVE. Mona did not know how to copewith her feelings. Suddenly everything looked spectacular to her. She was jovial all the time andfor the first in her life, she had started enjoying and living her life.Her love story starts from the hospital where she met a lawyer. He was a well-reputed lawyer andhad a certain standing in the society. His name was Derek. She had met Derek in the hospital.Derek was admitted in the emergency after his accident. Fate was playing a key role as at thattime Mona was in the hospital. She was not supposed to be there, as it was not her duty.However, it was Sarah’s shift but her mother had died so she had taken a few days off. Everyonewas covering Sarah’s shift and today was Mona’s turn. Derek was in a bad condition and a lot of care was needed to make him better. Derek family was not in town and it was a question that whowill take care of him. Before anyone could answer that pressing question, Mona herself took uponthe role of taking care of Derek. Mona extraordinary care included changing his bandages,cleaning his wounds, giving him injections, giving him the medicines, bringing food and makinghim eat it. Mona knew that hospital food was tasteless so she made extra effort to cook for Derek.Furthermore, she also helped to him the bathroom. Mona was surprised at her attitude towardshim. Derek was just another patient so why was Mona making so keen effort for his well-being.Mona special treatment made Derek better in no time. When Derek family arrived, they wereoverwhelmed in seeing Derek alive. However, Derek’s mother was not so pleased with Mona.Derek’s mother looked at Mona if she was some sort of threat to their family. No one couldunderstand her pre-notion at that point in time but Derek’s mother was right. Mona was trying tocross the boundaries but circumstances did not allow that relationship to prosper.

Mona had shown that by being a nurse one could still have compassionate side to them.However, in spite of being so thoughtful Mona had a motto never get involved with patients andher colleagues. All her life, Mona had practiced that motto very firmly. Unfortunately, fate hadsomething very different in stored for her.However, Derek did not come in that category. There was something mesmerizing about Derekand Mona was attracted towards him. Mona tried her best to come to her senses. She knew thatshe was breaking the boundaries and she would be in dire trouble.Mona tried telling her heart that she should not fall for Derek. She did not know anything abouthim. For all she knew he could be a rapist.When Mona was dressing Derek, their eyes met several times. Mona’s mind was saying that donot fall for him but her heart was saying that these eyes could not betray her. The heart and mindwere playing games. Today for the first time, Mona was letting her heart make the decisioninstead of her mind.Derek was a very skillful talker and had a knack of capturing ones attention. Derek immensepoliteness, his way of talking, his mannerism, his incredible looks, his sex appeal and hisundivided attention to Mona all attracted her towards him.Mona was praying that someone would come. However, it seemed that the time had stopped.Each minute seemed like an eternity to her. As Mona was thinking of giving some excuse, sherealized that Derek was calling her name. Mona just melted inside but tried to keep her composure. Derek said, “Are you ok, you look a bit flushed.” Mona said, “I am just tired, thank youfor your concern.” Mona gets up and checks her watch. It was getting late some other nurseshould have come back now.Just at that moment, another nurse enters to take over the shift from her. She breathed a sigh of relief. Mona gave the charge to the nurse and just rushed in the common room. She packed her things and ran outside. When she rushed outside, she realized that it was pouring down. Monawas getting frustrated now. It seemed to her that fate was playing some sort of game with her.There was no chance of her winning in this game.Mona stood their and started waiting for a taxi. Taxi was very frequently available but today notaxi is visible. The bus stop was also at a distance and Mona did not want to walk there. Mona didnot want to enter the hospital building again. She wanted to get away from the hospital andespecially the patients. Mona did not realize that the hospital was not the problem but Derek wasbecoming a problem for her.By hearing this name again, there was a big grin on Mona’s face. If someone saw her, one wouldhave definitely thought that Mona had lost her mental balance. She started remembering whentheir eyes met for several times. She was lost in dreams and suddenly realized that someone wasshouting something but she could not understand what was being said. She looks up and sees ataxi in front of her and the taxi driver was yelling, “Madam Do you want to go somewhere or not?”She just waves her hand to the taxi driver and instructs him to go.Instead, she was again entering the hospital. Mona was entering the danger zone. Mona triedtelling herself that she should not be going there but she could not stop her. After a while, sherealized that she was standing in Derek’s room. about to ask her that what she was doing. Before the nurse could ask her anything, Mona saidthat it was raining and she could not find a taxi.Mona just sat in that room and observed Derek. Derek was in pain as he had internal injuries. AsMona saw him in pain, she wanted to hug him and comfort him that he is in safe hands. Shewanted to be with him. Mona did not know how to control her thoughts. Mona realized that it wasnot a good idea to stay longer. Mona went to Derek and whispered in his ear “I am praying for you, you will be fine in no time.” Derek looked up and acknowledged her gesture. He smiled backand says, “thank you.”Mona left the building and stopped a taxi. This time she did not miss her taxi. The taxi droppedher home. After reaching home, she changed and made herself a quick sandwich. She sat in frontof the TV. Her favorite program was on. Mona’s concentration was not in the program. She waslost in her thoughts. Suddenly, she picked the phone and before she realized she was dialing thehospital number. She was asking about Derek. The woman told her that he was better. They havegiven him some medicines. He was sleeping now. After listening to this good news, Mona gotrelaxed. Mona started thinking about him and fell asleep.Mona got up around eight. Mornings were not a good part of the day however; today Mona wasreally fresh and chirpy. Mona had to be in the hospital at ten. She started her day with exercisethen had light breakfast and rushed for a shower. Mona was out of the house at nine thirty.Hospital was fifteen minutes bus ride from Mona’s house.When Mona entered the hospital, it was a chaos. There had been a major accident and therewere many patients, which needed her attention. Mona was busy the whole day. Around six, shegot a little breather.She decided to check on Derek. When she entered his room, she saw that he was reading thenewspaper. Mona did not want to disturb him. Derek saw her and said, “Please come in.” “I am sograteful for all your care.” Mona said, “It is my duty.” I am so glad that you are looking better now.”Mona did not want the conversation to end and was trying to find ways to talk to him. Mona wasthinking of what to say next, when Derek said, “it must be tough dealing with life and death.”Mona said, “It was hard in the beginning but then one gets used to it.” Derek said, “You are doinga great job.” Mona blushed and that this comment was coming from Derek. Mona was happy thatDerek had such positive thoughts about her work.Mona wanted to know everything about him. Mona did not know how to start that conversation.Mona was crossing her boundaries as she was trying to get personal with the patients. Mona haschanged the dressings, had given the medicines and now she had to go. However, she became astatue. Before Mona could take a step forward, Derek said, “I am so obliged for whatever youhave done for me.” Mona smiled and said, “I am glad that you are fine now.” Derek said shyly“can we meet up for a coffee.” Mona’s first reaction was to say no and said that there is no needfor this formality. However, Derek said, “you have saved my life and that is the least I can do for you.” However, in spite for her reservations she was ecstatic, wanted to scream, dance, and justtouch the skies. She said, “Derek it will be a pleasure to go out for a coffee.” After giving a greensignal to Derek for coffee, Mona thought that she was in a bad state. She wanted to look lovelyfor him. Derek said, “Please do not worry, you look lovely.” Mona was shocked and said, “How didyou know what I was thinking.” Derek smiled “your facial expressions were telling me that story.”Mona did not realize that this coffee meeting would change her life forever.From then onwards, Mona and Derek met regularly. Mona never had many friends and she wasrelishing this time. Derek was behaving like a true gentle man and treated Mona like a queen.
