: Understanding a “Small Moments” StoryThis session will show children that authors write a small moments stories, they stretchthe actions across several pages because the moment is so important.
Discovering One Small MomentIn this lesson, you will write a story in the air of one moment, demonstratingconcentrating on and picturing the moment while you put it on the page.
Establishing Long-Term PartnershipsToday’s minilesson establishes partnerships, and asks children to revisit their partner’swork of the preceding day to plan for upcoming work.
Stretching One Small MomentThis session invites children to listen to how a published author stretches a momentacross several pages. Children then plan their own writing in the presence of partners bytouching each page and saying what they’ll write.
PART TWO: Getting More Writing on the Page
Stretching and Writing WordsIn this session, then, we help writers separate out the many sounds they hear in words andwrite down the letters that correspond to those sounds.
Sketching Rather than DrawingThis session teaches the difference between sketching and drawing, emphasizing thatsketching is appropriate in the writing workshop so we can reserve time for writing.
Planning DetailsThis lesson will encourage children to plan detailed stories by saying those stories aloud before writing them.
