The City of San José, in coordination with the San JoséRedevelopment Agency, the Santa Clara ValleyTransportation Authority, and other local and regional transportation agencies, are developing a planfor a ½-mile radius around Diridon Station (approximately 500 acres of land). The objective of thisprocess is to provide a vision and framework for higher intensity/transit-oriented development (TOD)in the area. We invite you to play an active role in shaping this vision.The process involves developing a Station Area Plan around Diridon Station with related transit and station-area planning activities, and includes environmental clearance under the CaliforniaEnvironmental Quality Act (CEQA). Diridon Station, already a major transit hub, with its locationalong the Union Pacific/Caltrain/Amtrak/Altamont Commuter Express (ACE) rail corridors, willbecome one of the busiest multimodal stations in California as astation of the proposed BARTextension to Silicon Valley and the California High Speed Rail corridor (HSR) to San Francisco and Los Angeles.The Diridon Station Area Plan will provide a vision and guidancefor this unique destination with abroad mix of transit-supportive uses. In addition, the Plan anticipates pedestrian, bicycle, open space,and street connections from the greater downtown and surroundingneighborhoods.On Saturday, September 12, 2009, community members are invited to join the planning team from theCity of San Joséfor a Diridon Station Area Plan Visioning Workshop. The first in a series of communityworkshops for the Station Area Plan, this event will focus on visions and ideas for the future.Workshop participants will be involved in hands-on activities to identify key issues for the planningteam to address for the Station Area Plan.
