 Lacoste is a French apparel company founded in 1933 that sells clothing,footwear, perfume, leather goods, watches, eyewear, and most famously,tennis shirts. The Lacoste company was founded in 1933 and takes its namefrom Rene Lacoste, the world-renowned tennis player and sports enthusiast.Rene Lacoste did not like the traditional shirts used for tennis and teamed upwith Andre Gillier, the owner of France's largest knitwear company, to createthe knitted cotton pique shirt that revolutionized the sportswear market.The American press nicknamed Rene Lacoste the "Crocodile" after he made a bet with theCaptain of the French Davis Cup team. He had promised Rene a crocodile skin suitcase if hewon a match that was important to the team. The American public stuck with this nickname thathighlighted Rene's tenacity on the tennis court. A friend of Rene's, Robert George, drew acrocodile that was embroidered on the blazer that he wore on the court from then on. The North Face, Inc. is an outdoor product company specializing in high-endouterwear, fleece, footwear, and equipment. The clothing and equipment lines arecatered towards climbers, mountaineers, skiers, snowboarders, hikers, andendurance athletes.The clothing line is famous for its use on mountaineeringexpeditions on Mt. Everest and in other extreme outdoor activities.The North Face brand was established in 1968, in San Francisco, California, when DouglasTompkins and Kenneth "Hap" Klopp created an equipment retail store that eventually acquiredthe current name "The North Face". This name was chosen because the north face of a mountainin the northern hemisphere is generally the steepest, coldest, and most difficult face to climb.The North Face's easily recognizable logo consists of a slightly skewed quarter-circle with twolines running within it. This image is supposedly an interpretation of the famous Half Dome rock formation in Yosemite National Park. Adjacent to the symbol are the words THE NORTH FACEembroidered in large block letters.With the UEFA Euro 2008 football tournament in full swing, I thought Iwould explore theEuro 2008 logo. football tournament for European nations. The tournament, which is being hosted by Austria andSwitzerland, began on7 June 2008 and is scheduled to conclude with the final at Ernst HappelStadion in Vienna on29 June 2008.The logo has the following distinct components
Mountains
- Both Austria and Switzerland are famous for their beautiful mountains. Themountains surround the soccer ball and form a large part of the logo. The mountains are in edwhich is one of the primary colors in the flags of both countries. The mountains also have a nicedelicate shadow as well.
Football
- The football has various shades of green in it and is representative of the greenmountains of the Alps.
Typography
- The text on the logo has representation for the two host countries Austria andSwitzerland. The red color also represents the colors of the two countries. The name of thecompetition Euro 2008 and the name of association that controls all football in Europe, UEFA.UEFA's logo is on the top of a circle, similar to the actual UEFA logo.The official Euro 2008 logo was unveiled on 7 June 2005 exactly three years before the openingmatch. The design was created by the London-based design consultancy English &Pockett. Thelogo brings to mind Austria and Switzerland's common Alpine mountain sceneryand the red andwhite colors found in both nations' national flags.I personally was not too thrilled about the logo. I think it captures the essence of the twocountries and of the sport but I feel it does not represent the quick nature of the game.
 
 Ligue 1 is the top division of French and Monegasque football, one of twodivisions making up the LFP, the other being Ligue 2. It has been an all- professional league since its inception in 1932. The 20 Ligue 1 teams play eachother twice (home and away) during the season for a 38-match schedule. At theend of the season, the bottom three teams in the division are relegated to Ligue2. This promotion and relegation format, in place since 1995, is a relativenovelty in the French top flight.Currently, the top three teams in Ligue 1 qualify for the Champions League,with the top two proceeding directly to the group phase. The third-placed teamenters in the final qualifying round. The fourth-placed team qualifies for theUEFA Cup. The fifth- and sixth-placed teams can also qualify, depending onresults in the two domestic cup competitions.
