The University City Youth 49ers (Niners) organization is a newly established entity which strives to promote educational and community outreach, mentorship and diversity through athletics and socialinteraction.Through this effort, the UCYN hopes to instill and reflect pride, teamwork, sportsmanship, quality work ethic, discipline and awareness while stressing academic and athletic achievement and leadership, amongits participants and members of the community they interact with.Through the foundation of these guiding principles, the UCYN hopes to achieve these goals by placing astrong emphasis on academic achievement, positive sportsmanship, character development and physicalfitness.Our student athletes range in age from 6 to 17. We are committed to the overall success and achievementsof youths from culturally and economically diverse backgrounds.The UCYN TRACK CLUB hails its origin from the previously established University City Cougars Track Club, which was officially organized in 2000. We are members of the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) andUSA Track and Field (USATF) organizations.We are a year round competitive program that offers cross country, indoor/spring track, and summer outdoor track.All coaches are required to have a criminal background check. Also, coaches will be certified USATFLevel I (or higher) or working towards such certification.
The UCYN is not a direct affiliate, department, or sponsored organization of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, but has been granted business level and legal approval to field sports teams using the Charlotte 49ers name, design and logo. We are a 501c3 non profit corporation.
