JANUARY SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS
We are so proud of our Sunday School kids they did a fantastic job with our Christmas Program. Thanks to Karen Block, Deb Erickson, Jodi Overson, Kim Lang, Kristy Simar, Sherri Wendt, and Jennifer McLaughlin for their help. We also want to thank Marlene and Jeff Dreier for serving our cake, and Deb, Marlene, and Jeff for providing the candy bags. We begin 2014 with our Winter Rally on January 5th. Were hoping all the students will be there. Our first rotation is the House on the Rock, the familiar story of the foolish man who built his house on the sand and the wise man who build his house on the rock. Well be trying something new the following four weeks where well be having all the students go to the same room each week. Since our attendance has been so low, it will make it easier to hold a class with more than one or two in a room, and with only enough teachers for 3 out of our 5 rooms, we can have a teacher every Sunday. Well see how it works! On Sunday, February 9th, we will have our first Community Service Project which will be making Valentines. Well need many hands to help. Well also be singing in church that day. Each Sunday we provide students during our church service to hand out bulletins, collect the offering, and usher our congregation out. Please let Joyce know if you are willing to do this service. Thank you so much! Joyce Hanson, Director Peace Sunday School 320-528-2354 (Home) 320-304-0727 (Cell) baskets@runestone.net (email)

Epiphany of Our Lord! January 5
Epiphany means manifestation. On Sunday we celebrate the revelation of Christ to all people and all nations! The Magis were the first non-Jews to offer praise of the newborn King of Kings and offer him their gifts. Aptly, they give us the greatest epiphany of all time-the Word made flesh breaking into our world!

WHAT'S NEW AND HAPPENING AT LUTHER CREST!!!

Luther Crests summer theme for 2014 is ALL THE TIME where campers will explore how we live in seasons of HOPE, JOY, GRACE, LOVE, AND PRAISE as we immerse ourselves in the story of Jesus through the seasons of the Church year: Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost.
Luther Crests summer theme is lived out each day through devotion, worship, games, crafts, team-building activities, Bible study, campfire, and much more as campers experience Gods love and grace through the care and compassion of Luther Crests Summer Ministry Team.
We have the new 2014 Luther Crest Bible Camp brochure on the table in the back of the church or go to www.luthercrest.org or talk with Pastor Matthew to find out about the summer programs at Luther Crest in Alexandria..

Stewardship of the Good News

Forget Christmas, I think January is the most wonderful time of the year. Dont get me wrong, Christmas is great, but when December 25th finally comes around, most of us are so emotionally, financially, and commercially drained that its kind of a joy when its all done.
But January is the start of all things new: new calendar, new goals, new dreams, new perspectives, and new possibilities abound. What will 2014 hold for you? Who do you want to become? How will you make those changes this year? Who will you meet, where will you travel, what will you learn? Those are the fun things to ponder at the start of a new year. But with every new thing, theres also a twinge of uncertainty. Will it be a year of health or illness? Will it be a profitable year or will you be financially strapped? What happens if ________? Do you trust God to lead you through whatever may come? As Im recognizing in my own life, trust is much easier said than done. When all is well, its easy to trust God, when youre being pounded with bad news, its a different story. So in these times, there is one thing from Christmas that I hold on to: Emmanuel; which means, God with us. No matter what happens, you are not alone. Whether its a diagnosis, broken ankle, fuel fill-up, surgery, a bad day, grief, or attacks of every kind, you are not alone. Emmanuel God is with you. So be encouraged, knowing that you do not face 2014 alone. Through good and bad, God is with you. May you find comfort, as I have, in Psalm 56: 1Be gracious to me, O God, for people trample on me; all day long foes oppress me; 2my enemies trample on me all day long, for many fight against me. O Most High, 3when I am afraid, I put my trust in you. 4In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I am not afraid; what can flesh do to me? ... 9Then my enemies will retreat in the day when I call. This I know, that God is for me. 10In God, whose word I praise, in the Lord, whose word I praise, 11in God I trust; I am not afraid. What can a mere mortal do to me? 12My vows to you I must perform, O God; I will render thank offerings to you. 13For you have delivered my soul from death, and my feet from falling, so that I may walk before God in the light of life. Practicing trust, ~Pastor Matthew
