Submissions for Penguin AfricanWriters Series Book Cover ArtSeptember 2009 Brief
In 2010 we will be expanding the series and this is a call or submissions or artwork to beused on the covers o these orthcoming titles. It is a wonderul opportunity or both new andestablished artists, with assured international exposure and the support o the Penguin Group.Every book in the Penguin Arican Writers series is distinctly Arican and the illustrations shouldreect this while also taking into account the act that each title is a unique piece o work. Inlight o this we are looking or creative representations o contemporary and/or traditional Arica,although it is important to note that the artwork’s connection to the title and content o the bookdoes not necessarily have to be literal, as the messages and themes are open to interpretation. All submissions will be considered but only winners will be notifed. Penguin will not use artworkwithout notiying the artist. Please note the ollowing submission specifcations:
Illustration/Photo:
Illustration and photographs (both colour and black and white are acceptable)will be considered.
Format:
Only electronic submissions will be accepted. Preerably high resolution jpeg or ti images.
Size:
The image will be scaled to ft the ront cover o a B-ormat book (198mm x 129mmportrait)
Medium:
To be determined by artist
Objective:
Illustrations should reect an Arican theme, but be original in the approach to thisconcept. A creative view o what is ‘Arican’ whether contemporary and/or traditional whichwill contribute to uniqueness o each book. The themes specifed or each title are open tointerpretation.Please email cover art to renee.naude@za.penguingroup.com beore 28 September 2009. Nosubmissions will be accepted ater this date.Penguin Books will pay the artist o the chosen illustrations a ee o R1200.
