Bike Club is an inspirational programme that aimsto build cycling into the daily lives of children, youngpeople and their families. The programme is centredon young people, basing everything it does on theirneeds and interests. Bike Clubs can give young peoplefreedom, independence, a way of travelling from A to B, improved health and well-being, adventure andlots of fun. The programme is designed to be safe andsustainable. It can be a means of engaging youngpeople and opening up new opportunities.Bike Club aims to include and involve a wide range ofpeople, reaching out to families and all members ofthe community. Bike Clubs will help parents to feel moreconfident about letting their children use their cycles forgetting to school, and for extended services and leisureactivities. Anyone can get involved. You can start a club fromscratch – you don’t need to be running a bike clubalready, or to be part of any other kind of group. Working in partnership is central to the success of BikeClub. We intend to complement and work with theexcellent existing cycling initiatives, such as Bikeability,Bike It, Cycling Champions, Go-Ride and other projectsthat aim to increase cycling among young people andtheir families. The Bike Club programme is managed by the BikeClub consortium. This consists of CTC Charitable Trust,ContinYou and UK Youth. These three organisations know how to reach children and young people, how to findout what they want, and how to provide activities thatare inclusive, attractive and fun.
