We at Nativity are the Body of Christ, bearing many gifts to the world. Our people are our gifts, with all their many skills and talents. This month at  Nativity, our focus is on the gift of leadership, with two important events: Wayne Whitney’s ordination as a  priest on Jan. 18, and our annual meeting on Jan. 26. I know how excited we all are to see Wayne ordained as a priest. He has been with Nativity for four years now, and he is beloved by our parish. I am very pleased to have a new priestly colleague to share ministry with. I hope you will all come to the ordination service. An Episcopal ordination is a holy and awe-inspiring experience! In a sense, though, an ordination is like a wedding. A lot of energy goes into the ceremony, but the real significance of it is what happens afterwards – a lifetime of love in the case of a wedding, or service in the case of an ordination. Priests in the Episcopal Church are given the ministry of sacramental leadership (consecrating, absolving, and blessing), of teaching and preaching, and of leadership within the parish. We have all watched Wayne grow in the latter two areas during the time he has  been with us. As a sacramental leader, I know that Wayne’s gifts will shine brightly for Nativity, too. I look forward to the moment when I, with the bishop and other  priests, lay hands on him to make him a priest in God’s church. At our annual meeting, the focus will be on a different kind of leadership, the vital and essential ministry of lay leadership. We will be thanking the leaders who have put so much dedication into Nativity over the past few years: our outgoing senior warden, Jeff Jameson, and junior warden, Bill Deihl, and outgoing vestry members Nancy Bleasdale, Claire Smith, David Smith, and Jane Heist. (Note: Jane is running for re-election, as she has served only a one-year term.) It has been a privilege to serve with and be inspired  by these folks, and I am deeply grateful. We also will be appointing and electing new vestry leaders at the annual meeting. I am delighted that David Bolger has accepted my appointment as our new senior warden. David comes with a very strong background in nonprofit management and strategic planning – just the skills needed for Nativity to move to the next level. I am very excited about having David on our leadership team. Our candidates for election are Mark Miller for junior warden, and Suzanne Cohen, Jennie Dobbins, Cotty Peabody, and Jane Heist for vestry (Jane for a one-year term). What a strong group of nominees they are! You can find out more about them on  pages 6-7. Let me just say how pleased I am with this new class of vestry members, and how much I look forward to moving forward with them.Together, we are the Body of Christ. Our many gifts and talents make it possible for us to pursue God’s mission in this place. Thanks be to God!In Christ, Susan

Transforming lives with the love of God in Jesus Christ
Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers; then deeds of power, then  gifts of healing, forms of assistance, f orms of leadership, various kinds of tongues. 1 Corinthians 12:27-28
Power Bible Study
What stories about Jesus do you remember the most? The Gospel of Matthew records several stories about Jesus that other Gospel writers don't mention: the visit of the wise men, the slaughter of the innocents, the Ser mon on the Mount and its radical teaching about the Christian life, the judgment at the end of time based on how we have treated the “least of these.” Learn about Matthew’s unique perspective and what it means for us! Come join Pastor Susan and Dr. Wayne for Power Bible Study for Epiphanytide in the Music Room on Sunday mornings from 10:45 to 11:35.
Wednesday Evening Prayer
Wednesday Evening Prayer is more musical than ever! We are singing some of our old favorite prayers like the Our Father and the Magnificat along with new favorites the Nunc Dimittis and Phos Hilaron. This service meets in the Prayer Chapel every Wednesday from 6:00-6:30 p.m. and always features special prayers for healing. Make mid-week corporate prayer a  part of your spiritual well-being program.
