o shed some light on our love aair with online video usage, Nielsenreported a 53 percent increase in online video usage just this pastMay. Specically, Nielsen’s Tree Screen Report, which measures the viewing habits o Americans in terms o V, the Internet, and mobilephones, shows that while V viewing might still be dominant, online video usage was up by more than hal since May 2008. Additionally,the number o people watching video via cell phones within the sametime rame was also reported up by an impressive 52 percent.
Clearly, consumers love online video.
And their love or this mediumcontinues to grow thanks to the popularity o online video sharingsites like Youube™, Vimeo™ and Hulu™.And while online video usage jumped 53 percent rom 2008-2009,only three months later Neilsen shares updated gures underscoring just how hot the online video crazy continues to be, including:

Tat translates to 11.2 billion total streams in July alone.As Mashable.com reports, that is “nearly double the population o theentire world.” Tis equates to two videos or every person on the planet,and all o these views were generated just inside the US (

Tere were 135.9 million unique viewers of online video in July 2009.
I you do the math, that means that the average viewer watched82.4 streams in July.
Nielsen numbers also indicate that the average viewer watchedonline video for 211 minutes in July 2009.

), wecan clearly see that Youube continues to dominate the online videosharing arena. Its massive unique viewership means Youube by ar asthe largest reach.

An April 2009 survey by the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Lie Project, or example, indicatesthe share o online adults who watch videos on video-sharing sites has nearly doubledsince 2006. Fully 62% o adult internet users have watched video on these sites, up rom just 33% who reported this in December 2006. Over time, online video has also become a bigger xture in everyday lie, garnering 19%o all internet users who use video-sharing sites to watch on a typical day. In comparison, just 8% o internet users reported use o the sites on a typical day in 2006.Clearly, online video has not just become a staple on the internet; Pew reports thismedium has rapidly become “deeply integrated with daily lie.”In some cases, online video competes with or entirely replaces some aspects once exclusiveto traditional television.As
