NEWSLETTER|ISSUE # 3
Last week we talked about our twin goals of raising money and building community.Today, we drill down on the money angle. Next week we’ll circle back tovolunteering. How can you help us reach our financial goal of $150,000? There aretwo parts to that answer. First, donate goods. You have many options here and yes, everything is critical. Read more about donation opportunities elsewhere in thisnewsletter and in the flyers coming home in student folders. We know the list of donation opportunities can be overwhelming, especially for new parents. We suggestyou pick one donation area and concentrate your efforts. Here's the second and morecritical way to help us raise funds: Concentrate on the “P.P.S.” What's that? It standsfor “Pledges, Purchases, and Sponsorships,” three broad categories that account for 90 percent of walkathon's total revenue. Here is how you can make the most financialimpact:
Pledges: The money raised by students is our #1 moneymaker -- by far. It accountsfor 60 percent of total revenue. If you can do only one thing for walkathon this year, raise pledge money. The goal is $200 per student. Some superstars raise morethan $1,000. Challenge your student to be one of them. Pledges will make or breakwalkathon.
Purchases: Come to walkathon ready to shop. Buy holiday gifts. Treat yourself to asmall luxury. Buy a big lunch. The deals can be jaw dropping, and this is the time &place to spend money. Remember: the dollars you spend here go directly toenrichment programs for your kids. Last year, 90 percent of people who bought anauction item, only bought one. If you buy two items, we will be successful.
Sponsorship: Donate directly. Become a walkathon sponsor, which is taxdeductible. Join the “Family Honor Roll” for $350. Add your business for $500. Thisthe fastest, most straightforward way to contribute money. The three components of P.P.S. don't overlap. Hurray, you can participate in all three, which of course we recommend! We know our financial goal is big. But our passionand commitment to our students is even bigger. Be a part of our fundraising effort.Join our race. We have less than a month to go, and things are getting more amazingby the day.
