This paper from 1920 shows that, when the load in the output circuit of a vacuum tube is inductive, the input impedance may, in many situations, act like a negative resistance in series with a capacitance. This represents a regeneration through the tube itself, which leads to regenerative effects and oscillations in amplifiers. The effect is found also with transistors.
