DESIGN FOR PRINT AND WEB

END OF MODULE SELF-EVALUATION

NAME Danielle Muntyan

1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them? From this module, I have learnt many important skills, such as ensuring my time management is up to scratch, but I feel I work well under pressure, so having more to do, pushed me more to get on with it. I enjoyed feeling like I had scope within this brief also, for example, conceptually and budgetary. I decided to focus on Print, and whilst doing so, it allowed me do carry out in depth research, both primary and secondary, helping me expand the concepts and ideas behind print, as well as giving much more room for further suggestions and proposals through first hand knowledge of the industry. I have also developed the skill of being able to design a proposal for a website, or responsive website for either tablets, or phones for example, allowing further skills to be learnt and applied. I feel as though with this brief, I focused on conceptual thinking which is a skill I have learnt throughout this module, and the design process as ideas have developed. I have also learnt a new skill of designing and using vinyl stickers.

2. What approaches to/methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process? I have taken different approaches to design production, such as primary and secondary research, designing for print, whilst considering web throughout to ensure all features remain the same and usable regardless of device, ensuring clarity and thought is involved in the design process also. I have taken a conceptual approach with the idea behind the design work for this brief, and took a type based approach, to the physical elements as described in the brief, however I have proposed further design ideas etc, which could also be produced, as well as mock-ups of various situations interior, exterior, details and afterthoughts. I chose a mathematical approach to designing the menus and branding, etc, which I feel was very unusual and intriguing during crits which I feel helped my case with pushing this brief. 3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these? I feel a major strength is the concept. I havent thought of myself as a conceptual thinker in the past, however through workshops, exercises and this brief, I now feel otherwise, and see this as a strength throughout this brief and something I would like to capitalise more on in the future and start bringing into my work more. I also feel that the brief allowed me to show strengths within branding and identity, which is a field I would like to focus on more in the future, and work on more briefs relative to this.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future? When over viewing the project I feel as though more questionnaires or focus groups would of benefited my primary research, and is something I want to explore more in the future, as well as improving my photography skills. I feel this can sometimes detract from the quality of my work. 5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these? Work with a photographer with my final pieces, to ensure it is reflected to its best potential, to add to my portfolio as well as increasing the professionalism of my work. Focus on web to challenge myself, as I feel this is a skill, which I am neither overly strong nor confident with. I would like to learn more on this so I can expand briefs more effectively, as well as developing my skill set. Experiment with other print finishes such as embossing, as I feel this would have worked well, however with time constraints over Christmas this wasnt possible to achieve. Consider different print formats, to see how other finishes look aesthetically. This could have been explored more I feel, and so is something to develop and work on. Design more mock-ups such as uniform, to enhance the feel for the proposal and add further context.

6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas: (please indicate using an x) 5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor 1 2 3 Attendance x Punctuality x Motivation x Commitment x Quantity of work produced x Quality of work produced x Contribution to the group The evaluation of your work is an important part of the assessment criteria and represents a percentage of the overall grade. It is essential that you give yourself enough time to complete your written evaluation fully and with appropriate depth and level of self-reflection. If you have any questions relating to the self evaluation process speak to a member of staff as soon as possible. 4 x 5
