ARTICLE IV - RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIESSection 6EMPLOYMENT CONTRACTS (continued)2. Separate Contracts for Educational Excellencea. There shall be a separate contract for Board-authorized additional days/dutiespursuant to Section 7, SB 3235, 1985 Laws of Washington, for:(1) Additional days/duties pursuant to Article VI, Section 4-B; and(2) The following specific additional days/duties, provided that employeeswho are offered such contracts shall, as a condition of employment, berequired to accept and perform such contracts:(a)
 
teachers under regular contracts: one (1) dayThe day before school shall be designated for classroompreparation but may be worked any time after August 15 and priorto the first day of school at the teacher’s discretion.(b)
teachers under regular contracts: one (1) day. For the 2009–2010 school year, the District will provide one building-directed workshop day. This
 
workshop day will be held on
 
August 27, 2009. The date of this workshop day will be
 
determined. This day will replace the one LID day which wasnot funded by the State Legislature for the 2009–2010 schoolyear. Teachers will be paid at their per-diem rate for this day.The number of hours of pay will be determined by theteacher’s FTE status. In the event funding is restored for thesecond LID day, the District will not be required to providethis additional paid day.

, LONGEVITY, AND NATIONAL BOARDCERTIFICATION STIPENDSA. Commitment StipendIn recognition of commitment to education and numerous additional responsibilitiesthroughout the year, the Kent School District and Kent Education Association agree tothe provision of a commitment stipend. Employees must have started working undercontract by the first day of the second semester of the previous school year, and fulfilledtheir contractual obligations through November of the current school year. Continuingemployees must also have signed and returned their contracts by May 31 of the previousschool year. In recognition of commitment to
 
education and numerous additional responsibilities
 
throughout the year, the Kent School District and Kent Education Association agree to
 
the provision of a completion stipend. Teachers placed on Step 0 will receive acompletion stipend of $2,000 at th
 
e end of their first fully completed year of teaching onthe June pay warrant.
 
The completion stipend will be prorated based on the hire date for
 
teachers starting after the first day of school.
