July/August 2013 Report

Could I share a poem? I Gave Them Up for Jesus

Ive cleaned out and given away The worldly things I own. Im going to live for Jesus now: Ive given my life to Christ alone. My movie books and comic books Ive given up and now Ill live my life for Jesus The best that I know how. We cannot be for Satan And still to God be true; So I took the Savior as my choice When I bade the Devil adieu. Oh, yes, he tempted me sorely And tried to keep me tight But my thoughts are all for Jesus now, And I know Im doing right...

Dear Ones, As a Father pities his children, So the Lord pities those who fear Him. For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust. (Psalm 103:13,14)

(Continuing the work begun by J.C. in 1962) 708 Burton Drive Winona, MS 38967 662-283-1192 email: Choate@ WorldEvangelism.org Web site: WorldEvangelism.org gospelgazette.com

I dont have words enough to express my thankfulness that I was born into a family with dedicated Christian parents, and that God brought into my life the husband who would continue that spiritual focus for 52 years. I have now been a Christian for more than 61 years years of lessons, molding, blessings, and of seeing His promises kept without fail. Today I happened to remember a little poem I wrote about a year after my baptism at the Betty Clyde Burton age of 12. The initial heart-felt commitment July 25, 1953 was growing cooler with the passing months, and then a Scripture [Revelation 3:16] brought me up short and re-focused my life. The poem was my verbalization of repentance and renewed dedication. The Team Meeting You wouldnt think that one person living alone in a house would need to do much cleaning or preparation before company comes! But my philosophy has come to be, Take care of the work-work that needs to be done now, and do that cleaning later... So I tell visitors how much I appreciate their arrival because it has enabled me to do some vacuuming and dusting and fridge-cleaning that would not have been done otherwise! And also, I love to cook for visitors because I am left with cook-aheads that serve as my meals for indefinite time to come... Ha! Our annual team meeting was scheduled for July 11 and 12. The usual gang participated and we had opportunity to hear reports bringing us up to date on what is going on with each part of the work: Allon Brumley of Waynesboro, MS has joined the team. Allon v
has Outreach Printing.org [sales@OutReachPrinting.net], and he does an excellent job of printing our newsletters, business cards, etc. Giving good prices to Christians and churches, he uses his commissions to support himself while he is making arrangements to move shortly to Cebu, Philippines to work with Reuben Emperado, Prissy Sellers, and others there. One project will be to train preacher students so that they can be self-supported.

Front cover of Global Harvest, Volume 9.

Left to right: Allon Brumley, Thurman Hodge, Gene and Madolyn Gibson, Larry and Iva Nell Murdock, Jerry and Paula Bates, Colin and Ellen McKee, Robin Dunaway, [Louis, taking the picture] and Bonnie Rushmore, Dennis and Sharon Larson, Mike Brooks, Byron and Gay Nichols, Wayne and Janet Barrier with their grandson, Lan, and in the front, Justin and Leah Hopkins with their sons, Josiah and Jonathan.

v Thurman [and Sadie] Hodge of Union, MS. Thurman is retired military and has accompanied the Rushmores on trips to Myanmar and India. He and other brethren of the Union congregation have helped with building shelves at the WE building for our tracts.

v Gene and Madolyn Gibson [ggibson331@iwon.com] have operated the Mississippi Delta Student Center in Morehead, MS for a number of years. For their Wednesday night Bible studies they usually have 60-70 in attendance, which is probably more non-Christians being taught in one place than in the combined assemblies of congregations throughout the state. Because of Genes multiple health problems, they are in need of a dedicated replacement couple.
Larry and Iva Nell Murdock of Lawrenceburg, TN are involved with the team through the recording of English radio messages that are aired over Radio Sri Lanka. Jerry and Paula Bates [870-897-2373; Jerry@WorldEvangelism.org] live in Winona and are a vital part of the team. Here, among other things, Jerry manages the income and outgo of books, packaging books in response to requests from people overseas, filling book orders, etc. Paula does bookkeeping for the World Evangelism funds and invoicing for book orders. On weekends they visit churches to make reports on the work. Jerrys PowerPoint on the long-term effectiveness of the mission program is excellent. If you, as a supporting congregation, have not yet seen it, you would be greatly encouraged by the message. Jerry also works with Bear Valley Bible Institute of Denver, teaching graduate courses in their training schools overseas. And, of course, he and Paula interact on a continual basis with the brethren in India, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar with whom we work. They will be leaving the end of September for another period of work on that side of the world.

v Colin and Ellen McKee [cohamckee@att.net] of Haden, AL have been involved with the work in Indonesia for many years, living there full-time previously and now making two trips each year. Besides the teaching they do there, Colin translates materials into Indonesian and raises funds to enable the printing to be done.

v Robin Dunaway of Parish, AL works closely with the Barriers, making mission trips to the Philippines, India, Sri lanka, and Malaysia. They would like to have a sponsoring congregation and support to enable them to work full-time in missions.
Louis and Bonnie Rushmore live in Winona and are also a vital part of the home team as well as working overseas. [662-739-3035; Rushmore@GospelGazette.com]. Besides reporting on the mission efforts to congregations, Louis also has an excellent presentation concerning alcoholism and another one dealing with archaeology and the Bible. Any congregation would benefit from hearing these lessons and seeing the PowerPoints. In addition to teaching in training schools and congregations in India and Myanmar, Louis and Bonnie work with churches in Guyana. Here at home, they do much of the layout work for the issues of The Voice of Truth International. Dennis and Sharon Larson of Cary, NC, lived in Indonesia for many years, working with an oil company. Dennis expertise is with computer programming. He has written the programs to fit the specific needs for our databases and keeps them up to date.

Byron and Gay Nichols of Springfield, MO [byron_nichols@att.net] began working with us in the planning stages for The Voice of Truth International. Byron was the Associate Editor and Gay typed articles. After J.C.s death, Byron has served as Editor, receiving articles submitted by staff writers and choosing most of the content for each issue. He and Gay maintain the subscription lists and do the mailouts to individuals and congregations each quarter.

Mike Brooks of Muscle Shoals, AL works with churches in Nepal, Bangladesh, and India.

v Wayne and Janet Barrier, living in Florence, AL, [256-766-2807; wbarrier@highwaay.net], not only work with churches in India, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar, but along with their sons [Joey, Jamie, and Jeremy] they have helped with establishing training schools in Cebu, Philippines, in Viet Nam, and other countries. Through brethren in Myanmar, they are expanding the establishment of churches in China. Wayne serves as Editor of Global Harvest. They make work reports to more than 100 congregations each year. v Justin and Leah Hopkins with Josiah and Jonathan [J.D. did not come to the meeting], living in Cleburne, TX [justin@hopkinspublishing.com; 210-593-8329], are taking the lead in developing the proposed Bible Class materials, Into Gods World. v I made the picture and decided not to Photoshop myself into it [I continue to look about the same, except for the wrinkles! Ha!]. But I am on hand to do a few things around here too! Thank God for the privilege to continue with His work, even after J.C. has been gone 5 1/2 years.

We ended our discussions on Friday with the sobering question, What provisions have you made for your particular part of the work to be carried on when you are no longer able to continue? I had thought a lot about that challenge even before the meeting, but have found no answer. Knowing that, in actuality, it is Gods work and not ours, I believe He will provide what is needed when the time comes. Meanwhile, IF YOU WANT TO JOIN THIS BUSY, PRODUCTIVE, ENERGETIC, DEDICATED TEAM, PLEASE DO BE SURE TO CONTACT US! WE NEED MORE WORKERS! Appointments I was thrilled to accompany the Bates for visits in the Jackson, MS area with the North Brandon church and the Lake Harbor Drive church. Both congregations are very supportive of the work and are an inspiration to be with. In response to our plea for funds to pay for the Hindi telecasts that were begun last October, the brethren at North Brandon have committed $300 a month. About 3/4 of the needed amount has been pledged so far. Other news We are overjoyed that Bonnies PET scan came back as showing no cancer! She will continue to take b
the chemotherapy treatments and to depend on all of us to pray for her full cure. Thankfully, she has experienced few side effects and is able to accompany Louis for appointments as well as to work at the office.

b We continue to look for a solution to the overseas shipping problem. The rates for most countries have doubled or tripled, which means that we have to cut back on the quantity of magazines and books being shipped in response to requests, because we just do not have funds to cover the increased costs. Please pray that a better solution can be found. Consideration is being given to the possibility of printing the magazine overseas and having it shipped in bulk to the individual countries.

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you (John 14:18). [Angels are] ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation... (Hebrews 1:14).

The Gospel is our mission. The world is our home.

Change Service Requested

About a month ago we sent a letter to all of our supporters, telling of the diagnosis for the wife of Earnest Gill, one of our co-workers in Inda. Benu has a very aggressive type of breast cancer. She has had surgery and is undergoing chemotherapy. The Gills have no insurance and there is no government program in India to help with such expenses. Some funds have come in to help pay for the treatments, but about $15,000 more is urgently needed if she is to be able to complete the regimen. They have no one else to turn to for this help. Please, do what you can. If you need more details, \ contact us at 662-283-1192. You may send checks to World Evangelism, P.O.Box 72, Winona, MS 38967. We will be giving updates on Benu and also an accounting of the funds received. God bless you for helping. BBC Yes, I played some during August! I visited Brad and his family in Pleasanton, California. While there, we worshipped with the brethren of the Ocean Springs church in Pacifica which has helped generously with the Hindi Tv work in recent months. We are so grateful to this very sound group of brethren. Also, Brad surprised me with a new Mac computer! WOW! We hope to have the new website for World Evangelism David Hinds works completed soon. Brad has with the Ocean Springs been its developer. church. I also met Tami I flew to Seattle and spent Quan who worships there a few days with Sheila and and is a faithful supporter. Stephanie and her little family. How do you like the four-generation picture? There was so much more I needed to include, but Ive run out of space. In appreciation for the other team members and all that they contribute to the overall work, I felt that I should introduce them to you with a few details about each one, more perhaps than you had known in the past. God bless each one of you. We do ask your prayers for our wisdom. Betty Choate
