Michael Albert, a collage artist, created a map of Manhattan by spelling out locations with letters he collected from advertisements and commercial products. The artwork, which was completed in fall 2008, measures 32"x40." There is a spelling error in the map, says Mr. Albert, who challenges viewers to find it.

I spy with my little eye: Kraft dinner, Reese's Pieces, Baby Ruth, Starburst, Shreddies, Kelloggs, Lipton, Heinz, General Mills, Quaker Oats, Playtex, the sunrise from Sun Maid raisins....who else would like to play?

I like your game rayanda! Kix (X in Bronx)? Heyday bars (D in Madison)--maybe?

Isn't it amazing how a lifetime of being bombarded with advertisements has led to being able to recognize a brand just from a styled letter? This piece of art raises many questions about popular culture.
Yes Helen, you got some too! Anyone else like to play? This is one of those pieces of art you can stare at for hours and still find something new.

I know but it's making me hungry! This is a perfect companion piece to the passive agressive kitchen notes.
This is incredible. I work at a company that builds maps. I love NYC especially the Met and MOMA and their incredible Art collections. This combines al of these things together at the same time. This reminds me of Jasper John's Map 1961. Another favorite of mine
If you did one for Chicago, what would you use as your primary element? (Chicago is notorious is so many ways...)
Michael - In 2003, I bought the cereal collage poster at the NYC Marathon; I told you I was a high school teacher and you gave me several more. They still hang in my classroom as models for the many lit projects posters my students have been inspired to create from them. Thanks. Wonderful composition on the Manhattan St poster. Cheers! SMR
PS -- I tried to find the spelling error. Did you leave out the last 'T' in 'Hewitt"? You sneaky collagist, you! LOL
Hey Cut-n-Paste Boy! You ROCK! This collage is a piece of brilliant madness -- which is the very definition of NYC! I love it! (Now that I've bestowed the proper accolades, can I catch one of these letters to 8th and 67th? LOL )
