I WAS BORN and reared in an Orthodox Jewish home, for which I am thankful. My Dad attended Synagogue services every morning and every evening, 7 days a week, weather and health permitting. The children would attend the Synagogue service every Friday evening, Saturdays and on the various religious holidays. We also attended the Talmud Torah, 2 hours a day, 5 days a week.
Quite often my parents would use the expression in Yiddish which translated means "When Messiah will come." This expression would be used in regards to something which was so far in the future that it would be foolish to even consider it. Though I heard this expression concerning Messiah used many times, I had not the slightest idea as to the true identity of the Messiah they mentioned.
When I was 28 years of age, I attended a meeting where a Jewish man was speaking on religious subjects. This man had also been born in an Orthodox Jewish home. He was a practicing attorney when he became a believer in Yeshua (Jesus) as Messiah and Saviour. He gave up his law practice and began to study for ministry. That night I attended his meeting at the St. Paul Auditorium, I too became a believer in Yeshua as Messiah and Saviour, as the One who died for my sins.
I began to study the Scriptures and attended a Bible school for three years. The more I studied and learned the Scriptures, the more convinced I was that Jesus had to be our Jewish Messiah. But why? What proof did I have as to His Messiahship? I believe there are many proofs. Specifically, He is the only One that has fulfilled all of the Scriptures regarding Messiah's birth, ministry, death, resurrection, etc. Moses and all the prophets wrote concerning Messiah. We want to look at just a few of the hundreds of prophetic statements that have reference to the Messiah
In Isaiah 7:14 we read, "The Lord Himself shall give you a sign. Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call His name Immanuel." I am well aware that the term for virgin is "Almah" which is also translated in some places in the Scriptures as "young maiden." But, the term is also used for "virgin." The "sign" has reference to a miracle, something unusual, something impossible with man, something God Himself would accomplish. It surely is no miracle that a young maiden shall conceive. There are daily occurrences of young girls of 10 and 11 years old bearing children.
Without going into a full dissertation on this important subject, suffice it to say that it is truly a miracle, a sign, something impossible with man, that a "virgin" shall conceive and bring forth a son. The context of this verse demands a miracle. His name was to be called Immanuel, which means "God with us." Truly, when Messiah was born into this world, God was with us.
Over seven hundred years before Messiah took upon Himself flesh, Isaiah foretold that this is the way Messiah would make His appearance into the world. The fulfillment of this prophecy is given to us in the first chapter of the first book of the New Testament, which was written by a Jewish man, Matthew. There we read that the angel of the Lord told Joseph, the betrothed of Mary, the virgin of whom Messiah was to be born, that "all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet saying, 'Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a Son, and they shall call His name
The One who came to this earth born of a virgin was, according to the prophets, also THE MIGHTY GOD. For proof, let us torn to Isaiah 9:6 where we read, "Unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given. The government shall be upon His shoulder, and He shall be called: Wonderful, Counsellor, THE MIGHTY GOD, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
Here also, Isaiah, under the inspiration of God's Holy Spirit, is giving us some mighty and wonderful Messianic truths. he child that would be born of a virgin was actually THE MIGHTY GOD, The Child born, the Son given was the virgin born, Immanuel. This is the One who created the heavens, the earth, the sea and all that are therein. He is THE MIGHTY GOD. He is God manifest in the flesh. This being so, we Jewish people should be telling the rest of the world about our wonderful Messiah. God has come to this earth in the Person of our Messiah that He might become our Saviour by giving His life for our sins, that we might have everlasting life with Him in glory. He is our Salvation.
In Micah 5:2 we read, "But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto Me that is to be the ruler in Israel whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting." Isn't it amazing that Micah was given this divine inspiration as to the exact spot on the globe where Messiah was to be born? His goings have been from eternity and He was to be ruler in Israel. These truths point to the Messiah who was born in Bethlehem, Who was and is eternal, and Who will yet be the ruler of Israel. Micah's prophecy as to the place of Messiah's birth, was fulfilled by Yeshua HaMashiach. He must be our true Messiah.
After that 483 period, Messiah was to be cut off, but not for Himself. This Scripture portion has a direct reference to our Messiah and we are given the time when Messiah would make His appearance to this earth and then to be our sacrifice in death as Isaiah tells us. He was to be wounded and bruised for our iniquities. "But not for Himself," Daniel tells us. By this we are told Messiah died for sins which He did not commit. He did no sin. He was sinless. He died for our sins.
Only one Person today has the legal and the royal right to the throne of David, and that Person is our Messiah Saviour. Zechariah wrote, "Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion, shout, O daughter of Jerusalem. Be hold, thy King cometh unto thee; he is just and having salvation, lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt, the foal of an ass." This is Israel's King to whom the prophet referred. What King could this be? What King came into Jerusalem riding upon a donkey, who had salvation? King Messiah is the One King who has fulfilled this Scripture.
When Messiah came to this earth, we read that wise men came to worship Him as 'King of the Jews.' Nathaniel, a just and a hole Jewish man said to Messiah, "Rabbi, Thou art the Son of God, Thou art the King of Israel."
He came to this earth but was rejected by the people as their King at that time. He is going to come to this earth again and then He will be accepted as not only King of the Jews, but also as King of Kings and as Lord of Lords.
