About the East Atlanta Village Farmers Market

The East Atlanta Village Farmers Market’s mission is to strengthen the local economy and encourage
healthy lifestyles. Our mission is achieved through the promotion of products and programs from
local farmers, businesses and artisans. The organization pursues practices, programs and partnerships
with environmental, social and economic integrity. The EAV Farmers Market enters its fourth season
in 2010, and operates every Thursday, rain or shine, from May thru November during the hours of 4pm
to Dusk.

Market Manager Responsibilities

Day of Market

 Set up market tent and table with materials as well as sponsor and demonstration tents if
applicable. During market, encourage customers to sign up for the e-newsletter, sell merchandise
and answer any customer questions.
 Use tents and cones to ensure cars do not drive through the market area and vehicles are not
parked in the market area
 Responsible for setup of market and vendors
 Responsible for customer EBT Card transactions and token allocation at market tent and knowing
rules that apply to EBT, WIC and Wholesome Wave. MM is responsible for educating vendors
about the vendor role in these procedures.
 Collect booth fees from vendors and record all monetary transactions (merchandise, booth fees,
etc) for Market Day Weekly Report
 Collect EBT Tokens at the end of market and record on the Weekly EBT/WIC Report
 Maintain and build relationships with vendors and customers. Take note and act accordingly to all
vendor and customer concerns and requests.
 Implement traffic counts of customers on a monthly basis
 Maintain inventory of marketing, merchandise and informational materials
 Break down and put market materials in storage area after close of market and ensure site is clean
 Observe customer and vendor trends
 Manage the Manager’s Teen Assistant
 Be present at least 25 of 30 markets, and responsible for coverage if not able to attend market.
Weekly/Monthly

 Communicate with vendors regarding attendance and day of market logistics


 Get availability and products to feature from vendors on a weekly basis for newsletter and web
 Write content for e-newsletter and website
 Transfer Market Day Weekly Report and Weekly EBT/WIC to EAV FM Online Weekly Report
and Online EBT/WIC Report
 For the duration of the Wholesome Wave Grant, faxing the Wholesome Wave Weekly Report to
Georgia Organics every Monday by noon
 Send e-newsletter by Wednesday afternoon each week
 Research, contact, coordinate and promote musicians to play at market
 Research, contact, coordinate and promote chefs to do demos at market
 Responsible for training and coordinating with someone to fill in should you not be able to attend
 Work or volunteer on a farm for 1/2 day per month
 Assist with end of season market party, EAV urban agriculture bicycle tour, Taste of EAV and
the market’s participation at the East Atlanta Strut
 Interview and hire the Manager’s teen assistant from the neighborhood

Qualifications

• Knowledge sustainable agriculture issues and practices


• Ability to act independently, take direction and work with a team
• Relate and get along with diverse groups of people
• Communicate openly and honestly
• Communicate via verbal and written communication in a method appropriate for that
person/group/situation
• Observation skills
• Can make quick independent decisions when needed
• Competency with word processing, spreadsheets, and data entry
• Organizational skills with space, materials and information
• Ability to work outdoors in any weather and lift 20 pounds
• First Aid and CPR Certification (or willingness to become certified)
• Innovative and creative

Compensation

The term of the position is April 2010 thru November 2010 and is paid as a independent contractor.
Total compensation is $5,400. $700 per month during market season May thru November and $500
for planning and preparation in April. The Market Manager will be expected to be available for
some training prior to the official April start date.
