HEAR & NOW

It is scarcely a matter of all or nothing when it comes to hearing loss. In fact, there is a wide range of different degrees of hearing loss, which are categorized as mild, moderate, moderately severe, severe, and profound. While a mild hearing loss (difficulty hearing or understanding soft speech) is considered to be between 26 and 40 decibels (dB), a moderate hearing loss extends between 41 and 55 dB. After that, there is moderately severe (56 to 70 dB), severe (71 to 90 dB), and profound (91+). It is important to have a hearing evaluation to determine how much hearing loss is present. Not all instruments are suited to all degrees of hearing loss. Those with moderate hearing loss have difficulty comprehending regular speech up close; those with moderately severe hearing loss have trouble hearing a telephone ringing. During a hearing examination, your audiologist will test your hearing and present the results in an audiogram. To schedule a hearing exam, please call Accura Audiology at 716-633-0721.
