Which would change your life more: if you were unexpectedly told you would die soon -- or if you had been living wauiting to die soon, only to be told that was not going to happen?

Jay and Jason McKenzie -- who share a surname but little else -- have to face those chalenges. Jason is an introverted hypochondriac who has arranged his life around expecting to die any day, living more in video games than in real life. Jay, on the other hand, is an outgoing account executive with a fiancée, more friends than he count, and an expectation that life will always go well. Through some unfortunate coincidences, their medical test results are mixed up – so that Jay receives Jason’s fatal prognosis while Jason is mistakenly told that he is fine.

Time is the problem. Jason suddenly has too much facing him, as he now has to figure out how he will fill the unexpected – and not entirely wanted -- years of life ahead. He attempts to become more social, and to take his job more seriously, neither of which he’s sure he’s capable of. Much to his surprise, he slowly manages to acquire friends, a potential girlfriend, and a new passion in life.

Meanwhile, Jay suddenly doesn’t have enough time for the happy life he’d been expecting. He breaks off his engagement in order to spare his fiancée the pain of his early demise, but that starts a spiral of increasing apathy and isolation, which he is not prepared for. It takes several setbacks for him to understand the consequences of his recent choices, and he realizes that he cannot just let life happen to him.

Both Jason and Jay have to learn how to use the time they have to get what they want from life…if they can find what that is.
