When I wrote my story of frustration in trying to correct an error in the scientific literature, I didn’t realize how much company I had and what a nerve my story would hit. But I’m at least pleased to see that it has inspired others, like Ted, in this story, to stop suffering in silence and to fight the battle for truth and improved ethics in science. And Ron Fox is doing a nice job with his site (see below), as well. It’s also very satisfying to see how the internet, including scribd, is filling a huge hole in the scientific process and perhaps even changing the way science and mathematics are done.

Hill's story and another by Rick Trebino are complementary, the second about trying to correct false claims about one's own work, and the first about trying to correct someone else's false work. I have added both to some stories of my own at http://www.fefox.com under the heading Science and Integrity, an introduction to which is also on Scribd: http:// www.scribd.com/doc/19495234/Science-a... Hill and Trebino do a great service to young scientists everywhere.
