Description

I wonder if the average church member comprehends the burden under
which his pastor labors. This burden seems to be in at least four areas.
First, there is a spiritual dimension to one’s pastoral burden. James warns
that not many should become teachers, knowing that they will incur a stricter
judgment. Pastors are held to a higher standard for their behavior and
teaching. Jesus said, “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe
to stumble, it would be better for him if with a heavy millstone hung around
his neck, he had been cast into the sea.” Then there is the reality of Satanic
warfare. Jesus told Peter that the devil had sought permission to sift him like
wheat, but Jesus promised to pray for him.
