The Beatles for English language learnershttp://www.beatles.esllistening.org/
On 6 July, 1957, a chance meeting between two teenagers begins themost successful songwriting partnership in popular music
A church fete
It is late afternoon. In achurch hall in a suburb of Liverpool a summer fete iscoming to an end. A group of school friends is playing musicon the stage. They call theirband, The Quarrymen, aftertheir school Quarry Grammar.A tall, very thin sixteen-year-old youngman sings and plays guitar. He is clearlythe leader of the band. Because of his verypoor eyesight he stands very close to themicrophone and stares out into theaudience. It makes him look angry andaggressive.‘Who is that boy?’ people whisper. His name is John Lennon.
Looking for girls
Fifteen-year old Paul McCartney is in theaudience. He is only there because hisfriend has promised, ‘there’ll be lots of girls.’ That’s why Paul is wearing his bestclothes: white jacket and drainpipetrousers. But all the girls seem to be withother boys. The band isn’t too good, either. Butthere’s something about John Lennon thatgets Paul’s attention:‘There was a guy up on the stage wearing a checked shirt,’ he remembersmany years later. ’He was singing a song Iloved, the Del-Vikings' Come Go With Me. Ithought he was singing well.’ McCartney begins to listen moreclosely. He notices that Lennon’s guitar isout of tune.
‘What do you play?’
The Quarrymen finish playing and comedown from the stage. A mutual friend

Great analysis of the Beatles' career - especially the meeting of Lennon and McCartney - for English language learners. McCartney and Lennon said themselves they loved to do their concerts in Liverpool and Hamburg. I liked your 'the older boy' and 'the younger boy' in tags. And how much Paul liked the girls even then (1957)!
