DALEKOARTS ANNOUNCES 2014 SEASON

DalekoArts to present second full season of professional theatre in New Prague

JANUARY 13th, 2014 Following a successful inaugural season last summer, DalekoArts will produce a second season of professional productions beginning in May of this year. The season will open with Broadway classic The Philadelphia Story and a new Steven Dietz play, Rancho Mirage, playing in rep. Both of those shows will then enjoy a one-week run at Theatre LHomme Dieu in Alexandria, MN. The season will conclude with a one-month run of the musical classic Little Shop of Horrors during August and September. Were following last seasons formula to a T, explained Co-Artistic Director Ben Thietje. Weve got a beautiful classic, a great new play, and a really fun musical. All the bases are covered. The Philadelphia Story, by Philip Barry, tells the tale of Tracy Lord, a headstrong and spoiled heir on the verge of marrying a snoot when her ex-husband and a smitten reporter get in the way. The classic film version starred Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, and Jimmy Stewart. Rancho Mirage is a brand new comedy by acclaimed American playwright Steven Dietz. It follows three couples, long-time friends, who find themselves at a dinner party where everyone finally decides to tell the truth, and the fictions that hold their lives together are exposed. Little Shop of Horrors, written by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, is the musical story of Seymour, a down and out floral assistant who becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood. The musical played on Broadway in the 1980s and was later made into a film directed by Frank Oz. The Philadelphia Story and Rancho Mirage will play in repertory from May 8th to June 8th the shows will run simultaneously but on alternate evenings (e.g. patrons will be able to see one production on Friday, and the other production on Saturday). Running the two plays at the same time will give our patrons great flexibility, noted Thietje. Theyll now have an entire month to catch the shows, as opposed to only two weekends. DalekoArts will also enjoy a new venue this season. The company recently signed a lease to perform in a former auto garage on the south side of New Prague. Seating will accommodate 40-50 patrons, a much smaller space than the companys previous home. Our work is definitely cut out for us, said Co-Artistic Director Amanda White. But once we get everything into shape, its going to be a great place for a summer of exciting and intimate theatre. I love this chance our artists have to come into a space designed to serve industry or retail, and to transform it into a theatre. We hope our audiences are ready to go on an adventure with us, because we absolutely cannot wait! Individual tickets for the 2014 season go on sale March 1st. Season Memberships and Daleko FlexPasses are on sale now. Season Memberships purchased in the month of January receive an extra 5% off.
