EWSD Application Program System
1.0Introduction:
The application program system (APS) covers thesoftware stored on external memory (magnetic disk) in acertain EWSD exchange, in the common memory (CMY) of the CP and in the memories of GPs and which must be loadedupon initial start up. Together with the hardware andfirmware, the APS forms a certain exchange according tofollowing criteria:According to type:
local exchange
long distance exchange
international gateway exchange
mobile switching centreAccording to operating company features:
call-processing and O&M features.According to scope and type of line assignment:
line categories, trunk groups, etc.According to network environment:
administration of traffic routes, zoning, tariffs, etc

In the exchange, the APS is loaded to the CMY of the CP andthe external memory. The APS contains recovery, backup(save) and generation files. In EWSD software is categorized in the following way:
Resident Software
Software modules belonging to the above group are linked inone major linkage run and deposited in a file namedSY.TASKLIB or SY.PSW.Txxx. The term “resident” signifiesthat the software is permanently in the memory.
Non Resident Software
Some modules are linked to form one unit (e.g. a non-resident process) and stored in a file named SY.LOADLIB. The latter file contains many-separate-units which are generated bymany -separate-linkage runs. The term non-resident”signifies that the unit is loaded to memory when required.
Off-line Software
These modules are stored in a file -e.g. SY.INSTALL- in anadditional linkage run. The modules are not required forunning operations but instead to initialize a hard disk, for example, or to copy to disk the storage content of magnetictape.

Firmware
By means of a special device, programs subsequently requiredto be stored in the PROM are installed as FW in the PROMSafter linkage.
2.0APS Files and Data
2.1Version-SW
This is the basic component of the APS and consists of CHILL-and Assembler-modules for the central processor andall group processors. It includes all planned feature for thisversion of APS.
2.2Exchange Type-SW
It contains general SW components of the APS, whichare required whenever the same exchange type is used. e.g.generic L (Local) or generic T (Transit) etc.
2.3Project specific-SW
It includes SW components and variants, which are onlydeveloped for certain projects i.e. realization of special typesof signaling. The components 1 and 2 do not contain thissoftware.
