Reformation and Catholic Reformation Manuela Medina Previous Work: Individual reading of European Renaissance and Reformation, 13001600. (chapter 17 in the World History. Patterns of interaction book) and class discussion after viewing Elizabeth (Shekhar Kapur, 1998). The class discussion will try to put into perspective the Reformation as an event that although represents a break within the European society of the time, did not completely changed it. The interplay between continuity and change has been one of the main topics in our discussions in class especially in our last main subject: The Renaissance. The questions of what exactly did it changed, what remained and for whom, will be the starting point of the discussion. The exercise that will follow is a Learning Menu in which student will select, as if choosing from a menu in a restaurant, 2 appetizers (designed to explore the larger context in which the Reformation took place, as well as seeing it as an effect of several causes), 1 Entre (Designed to provide a deeper understanding of the event through the exploration of important characters or places) and one dessert (Designed to be an overview of the topic). The students will choose according to what their own skills or what they feel they can do better. All of the questions are designed to not only test the students knowledge about this subject but also make them draw upon previous knowledge of both the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
