California Student Suspension/Expulsion Data (2011-2012)

Subject: 2011-2012 Student Suspension and Expulsion Data

Within the past year, or so, the California Department of Education (CA.DoE) has been increasing the data that has been captured from various reporting requirements of the State to local school districts, making new datasets now available to the public. Remembering back to my own public school days, no such data was available—so virtually everyone under the jurisdictions of the public school system was unaware of any suspensions/expulsions—other than perhaps to people close to those disciplined who might know the details of the particular disciplinary action. Today, we are truly blessed to live in a day where the Internet offers us a low cost publication system for data such as this, and a growing openness to reveal to the public what is going on behind the generally closed doors of the public education system.
