To:
Stakeholders/Partners
From:
NYS Department of TransportationI-95 Corridor Coalition
Date:
August 28, 2009
Re:
511 / ITS Regional WorkshopThe NYS Department of Transportation, in coordination with the I-95 Corridor Coalition, will jointly co-host the first of two planned
“Project Workshops”
in October as part of an effort towards the on-goingimplementation and improvement of the 511Traveler Information services. The October workshop will provide attendees the opportunity to review and discuss 511 systemcomponents, matters of potential future interest, and future strategies related to traveler informationdissemination. Breakout sessions to discuss whether data feeds can be standardized to maximizeutility, next generation probe data usage, transit trip planning opportunities, and outreachopportunities will help identify future opportunities for collaboration. The workshop is intended to review the current state of traveler information-oriented technology, aswell as the technological needs moving forward to ensure we are working together with other entitieswho are also interested in providing technology improvements. Through this information sharingforum, the goal is to ensure that limited resources are focused on projects that can meet the data andtechnology standards necessary to promote new traveler information-oriented technology amongstsimilar programs around the country. This workshop will also provide time for a discussion of potential or up-and-coming programs under consideration by partner agencies. The transit portion of the workshop will encourage the discussion of other research and developmentinitiatives as a precursor to a separate and upcoming Transit Service Information Portal workshop tosupport the Transit Trip Planner in the future. In order to provide a collaborative opportunity for all attendees, we anticipate attendance by industryrepresentatives, government agencies and authorities operating real-time information systems or transportation systems, academia, travel info providers, navigation device companies, mappingcompanies, internet innovators, other states, partner agencies, coalitions, cyber security GIS staff, firms specializing in feeding CVO apps, VII and future data streaming interests. In order toaccommodate the reality of travel restrictions in current economic climate, the attached agendaprovides for a single-day workshop. The workshop will be held at the Region 8 Hudson Valley Transportation Management Center inHawthorne, NY, with directions attached.
