Slatted paper lantern
These little lanterns are so colourful and festive whenthey’re strung on a line together. Change sizes and use different colours and patterned papers for differentcelebrations.
 Time:

 Aproximately 1 hour
Difficulty:Hints:
We used the colours red and goldin this activity as they are popular coloursfor Chinese New Year decorations.
Using your cut out template as a guide, trace around the edge onto a red piece of card to create 8 slats.
1.
Cut these slat pieces out carefully. Punch out, or cut out, the hole indicated on each end of the slat template.
2.
Stack slats together. Thread the ribbon through one hole and out through the other. Place the stack 3/4 of the way down the ribbon.
3.
Thread a bead onto the ribbon and holding it against the slats, tie a knot behind it to hold it in place.
4.
Bend the slats to form a rounded shape. Holding them in this shape, thread another bead on the other end and tie a knot in the cord behind it.
5.
Tie on a tassle and trim to neaten or just trim the ribbon. Spread out all the slats evenly to form your round lantern. Hang on a horizonal wire or string.
6.
coloured paper
