Peace Mind Petalers,
How many of you own acalculator? Well whether youown one or not, so many of usfind ourselves attempting tocalculate every situation --trying to figure out andreduce things to their minutestdetails... to the point ofexhaustion. We believe that this intensecalculating will lead us to an understanding, a break-through. Because in order to attain something, wemust work "hard," right? No. Because we can easily --without even knowing -- calculate ourselves out ofsuccess entirely. And who wants that?Sometimes the best thing you can do is just continueflowing on, sliding forward without stopping to consider every possibility or every inevitable hiccup that arises.Don't become complacent, but also don't becomeobsessed with the details. There's a beauty in the mystery. As light shines througha tree, it produces (or projects) a disorderly andstochastic pattern of shade. And in this randomness, there is no calculation. No consideration of how/whythe light shines through the leaves. It's just created andpresents itself.Whatever it is that you are pursing, remember to bethat same light cutting through the leaves, leavingyourself open to randomness and the mystery of whatwill be projected.Love, Happiness, and Peace David Askaripour Editor

The Merits of Shortcuts
A deeper look atEugenics and theEthics of SelectiveBreeding

At the moment, the total worldpopulation is over 6 billionpeople. Worldwide, thebirthrate has dropped and themortality rate has become un-stable due to the outbreaks ofAIDS and devastating naturaldisasters. There are famines, genocides, and wars ragingall over the world. Despiteall of this, the U.S. CensusBureau says that the popula-tion will continue to riseand by 2020 be 7.6 billion. As the world overpopulates, resources will become scarceand everyone will suffer. Weneed to find an answer tothis problem and fast. Some would say that eugenicsis the answer. The idea be-hind eugenics is that scienceis somehow actively involvedin procreation; the point ofwhich being to create the bestpossible offspring to further thehuman race and weed out the diseasedor the weak. As a result, therewould be less people and the peoplewho would be here would be geneti-cally better. Essentially speedingup the process of evolution and cre-ating a shortcut to a better geneticpool. This can be achieved through anumber of ways. One of the ways isselective breading. That’s when thefather and mother are chosen fortheir genetic characteristics andthen asked/told/forced to procreate. If your genetics aren’t up to musterthen you are not allowed to havechildren. Another way is to make“designer babies.” This is when thebaby is genetically engineered oraltered to have more desirabletraits or not have undesir-able ones. Butthose are justsome of the morewell known ways. Most people seemto feel thateugenics is aninfringement ontheir basic humanrights and no oneshould ever havepower of anotherperson’s abilityto have children. Many also conjureup images ofHitler or othermaniacs who haveused eugenics fortheir evil plans.Historically speak-ing, primitive formsof eugenics havebeen used for every-thing from the sys-tematic destructionof a certain races tothe Viking choosing toonly kidnap tall blondwomen. However, theseacts of evil have beenunfairly intertwinedwith eugenics.Eugenics, in and of itself, has noevil or good attached to it. It issimply a scientific idea the sameway that gravity or the speed oflight. But it becomes personal to usbecause it has to do with our chil-dren and whom we have sex with. Ourinstincts kick in and we tell
