Perception

• The word perception comes from the Latin perception-,


percepio, , meaning "receiving, collecting, action of taking
possession, apprehension with the mind or senses.“

There are two basic theories of perception:

• Passive Perception (PP)


surrounding - > input (senses) - > processing (brain) - > output
(re-action)

• Active Perception (PA).

(as opposed to "should be").
• Perception is part of the process of understanding

• All people do not "see" the same thing when looking at a visual image.

• Young children, teenagers, and adults "see" things differently.

• Socio-economic filters include occupation, level of education,


environmental factors, and family upbringing

• Cultural filters include language, customs, belief systems and historical
