Young Graduates Expectation In Career Planning
CHAPTER 11.0INTRODUCTION
“Today’s graduates show a lack in dynamism and edge to survive the requirements of the evolving job industry”. “If you have a degree but remain unemployed, then it is time to change your attitude”.That is the advice given from Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam. When making important career or education decisions, it is important to recognize a few keycharacteristics about yourself so that you make choices that are well suited for you. Specifically, it ishelpful to clearly understand what you are interested in, what your strengths and abilities are, whatyour personality type is, and what is valuable to you. Having self-awareness about these attributeswill help you in deciding between a careers or furthering your studies.“Career planning is a lifelong process, which includes choosing an occupation, getting a job, growing in our job, possibly changing careers, and eventually retiring. According to recent studies, half of the men and women who went to work this morning feel they are in the wrong career field. Not just that they feel they would like a different job, but they feel they are in the wrong career altogether. Another study indicated that 52 percent of those working in the information technologyfield said they would rather be doing something in the liberal arts”, said
Crown Financial Ministries. These statistics merely reflect the fact that people base their career decision making on faultyfoundations, the world's perspective of determining a career. Some of these include choosing a job because: it pays well, it's the first/easiest you can get, it's offered to you, you have friends who work for the company, you've done that kind of job before, the job sounds good or has a good title, your parents do that job, or it will fulfill your parents' unfulfilled dreams.
