Breastfeeding - AVital Response,
referring to the key role breastfeeding plays in times of disasters,such as fires and earthquakes, whenclean water and appropriate food areoften in short supply.Lactation consultants and publichealth nurses are available at PublicHealth Units across Interior Health toassist mothers and infants during the breastfeeding years, and to ensure fami-lies have all of the help they need to give babies the best start in life. TheBreastfeeding Challenge is sponsored bythe Quintessence Foundation, a non-profit group providing education to par-ents and professionals about breastfeed-ing. Murdered man inVoght Park 
On Friday at 7:20am, West Merrittneighbours walking their dogs found aman down in Voght Park, between the berm & track near Canford Ave.The area was cordoned off for theentire day while forensic investigatorscombed the area & RCMPcanvassednearby residents for any info on the inci-dent. They confirmed on Saturday theidentity of the 28-year old Merritt resi-dent as being Nasir “Nas” AhmedKhokhar. He was known to police.RCMPSoutheast District MajorCrime Unit (MCU) from Kelowna,Kamloops Forensic Identification andRCMPPolice Dog Services assisted theinvestigation. Ateam of approx. 15investigators is working on the case.Cause of death will be determinedonce an autopsy has been completed.Investigatorsare seekingpublic assis-tance,asking that if anyone has anyinformation regarding this incidentornoted anything suspicious on theevening of September 24 until the morn-ing of September 25 in the area of VoghtPark, to please contact the MerrittRCMP, 378-4262 or Crime Stoppers, 1-800-222-TIPS(8477).
Schoenborn to betried by judge alone
Lawyers for the Crown and defenceagreed that Allan Schoenborn will facemurder charges before a judge alone, tospare jurors seeing the graphic photographsof the crime scene where the 3 Schoenbornchildren were found murdered in theirhome in Merritt. The trial starts Oct. 5, andis expected to take 4 weeks.It’s expected the evidence will be attimes extremely graphic, particularlypictures and video taken at the crimescene. Counselling will be made avail-able to those who work the trial and aredisturbed by what they see and hear.
