1Carl SmithDrug PerceptionMarijuana is perceived as one of the safest recreational drugs, that may be true but just abouteveryone agrees that marijuana alters ones perception.Marijuana influences everybody a littledifferently. Some people like it because it makes them feel relaxed. Others, feel paranoid. Somepeople say it helps them tune into music. Food tastes better. Time slows down.{1}The way marijuana affects the person depends on the potency of the marijuana, how it isbeing consumed and even the current state of mind the user is in. If marijuana alters perceptionsand judgement then driving a car could be dangerous. Impaired judgement could lead to riskysexual behavior and exposure to sexually transmitted diseases like HIV. But, perhaps one of themost serious side effects of marijuana is lethargy. Marijuana makes people lazy. {1}Marijuana does have positive physiological and psychological effects as well.Though specific effects of marijuana in the body are well known, each has been taken inisolationwithout noting that both sides of the Autonomic Nervous System are conjoined. Instead of aperspective that sees the whole person and the simple holistic effect of marijuana, a near sightedand simple method of measurement has been employed, and marijuana’s profoundmeaning for health has been lost. (2). The main psychological effect of smoking pot is euphoria.Getting high or "stoned" is the reason most pot smokers use marijuana. (3). It can also cause adistorted sense of time and paranoia.
