hen my fiancédecided to under-take a renovationof our cramped masterbathroom, I never doubt-ed his ability to finish theproject and do it correct-ly. Although this wouldbe his first renovation, hepossesses a mathemati-cal-engineering-typebrain and attention todetail suited for such aproject. You’d never findme attempting a renova-tion; “Hire out,” I’d say. Then I could get back to watching “House of Cards” on Netflix.I wouldn’t necessarily recommend DIY for sucha big project, but my fiancé managed with thehelp of hours of onlineresearch — and plenty of YouTube videos — andconversations with peo-ple experienced in homeimprovement. The bathroom renova-tion is done, complete with an expanded showerspace, new plumbing andbeautiful tiles. But forhomeowners, such as my-self, who appreciate pro-fessional help, we high-light the work of the Gran-ite Bay House Doctor(page 4), who handles allthose nagging repairs andincomplete projects forev-er stuck on your to-do list. This month’s theme isfinancial planning andinvesting (that can meanin one’s home, of course). We also feature a new parenting ministry —open to people of all faiths— in Granite Bay thataddresses the technologi-cal divide between adultsand children (page 32). Idon’t have kids, but I know about social media andalready dread when I’llhave to figure out how toallow my children inde-pendence and access totechnology while alsokeeping them safe.I use social media andkeep abreast of the latesttrends, but there’s still somuch I don’t know, andit’s unsettling how quick-ly the online and tech worlds change. But kidsknow this. For instance,my cousins told me Face-book was dying among youth long before I readthat same conclusion innews reports.
