January 2008
Welcome
to the first TeachOverseas.info newsletter for 2008.December and January have been
extremely busy for me as I’ve been job
hunting myself. It is very rewarding to
announce that I’ve used the very
techniques I share in my book to land
myself a new teaching job abroad. I’m
currently in Thailand but for the next
academic year I’ll be moving to the
Philippines. I wish all my customers thesame success with their job hunts. With the recruitment season wellunderway for this year, I have includedin this issue some advice for teachingcouples, and some information aboutfinding the best paid teaching jobsabroad.

Teaching Jobs Overseas forCouples
Teaching couples are very popular withinternational school recruiters for manyreasons but the main one is that couplescan often work out cheaper to hire in thelong run. This article however, is all aboutteaching jobs overseas from the viewpointof the teaching couples, rather than theschools.Whether you are married or not you canlook for jobs as a teaching couple, mostschools do not discriminate againstcouples who do not have a marriagecertificate. An obvious exception is schoolsin the Middle East. It is very difficult fornon-married couples to land jobs ininternational schools in the Middle East,
where governments’ regulations stipulate
that couples seeking working visas producea marriage certificate. You may be able to find a way around thisproblem but it is unlikely thatinternational school recruiters recruitingfor schools in the Middle East are going tofind non-married teaching couples anattractive employment prospect whencompared to married ones. If you are inthis situation, your best bet is toconcentrate your job hunt on other regionsin the world.
